I think it would depend on how long you kept up that sort of diet. If you tried it on a very short term basis- like less than a week, I think you would lose some weight, but it's not healthy for a person to eat so few calories. Chances are, you will gain the weight back. You need nutrients and minerals you can't get consuming so little too- even if taking a supplement (vitamins) because it doesn't get assimilated into your body without food. Couldn't you try drinking more water? From what I hear, it helps you lose weight and most people are dehydrated without realizing it. HTH :)

You'll lose weight but its very unhealthy. You might faint and get many health problems. if you are trying to lose weight, eat at least 1200 calories a day. trust me I know. Ive done that before. Ive even eaten 250 calories a day. In a six month period, Ive probably fainted for more than 5 times and if I continued to do taht for another week, the doctor said i might have died, i had anorexia. You cant burn more calories than you eat without risking your health. Plus, after a few days, you cant exercise if you only eat 500 calories a day beacuse you wont have enough energy to. You'll barely have the energy to move. iIm telling you this from my own experiance.

Will you die from it --- you'll suffer from malnutrition, probably go into various system failure.
It's unlikely you'll lose weight, at least for long. Your body recognizes its need for around 1000 calories per day minimum. If you don't provide that, your body will go into starvation mode, and begin to horde/store anything you take in. If you cut way back on carbs - and so many crash dieters do - and you don't take in enough simple sugars for your body to burn for easy fuel - you body will begin to break down proteins - That's a BIG problem.
Your system will already be stressed by the inadequate intake - ability to handle the breakdown of proteins - stresses other systems. Kidneys and other organs can begin to fail.
So, HOW badly to you want to lose weight?
There''s only one safe way to do that, and that is through a SENSIBLE diet and exercise program. It's a slow process, but you'll stay healthy and it's more likely any weight lost will stay off.
Check with your doctor and/or a nutritionist.

The key to losing weight is burning off more calories than you take in. It's not healthy to eat less than 2000 calories in a day especially if you are exercising a lot.

That would be called anorexia, and when you started eating more than that your body could go into shock and yes die. Your body needs at least, 13-1400 calories per day, just to function.
Eat healthy foods, not junk. and excersize moderatly, this is the best way to have a good weight.

It generally takes 40-45 days to die, depending on a lot of factors. I think Gandhi and Jesus went 40 days. I think it's pretty clear you will lose a lot of weight. From what I understand, unless under penalty of torture or if you have extreme discipline, you have a pretty powerful desire to eat. Look at how many have resorted to cannibalism. Your body will tell you that the situation is not advisable.

you burn more then 500 a day just being alive. Breathing takes calories, digesting your food takes calories, thinking takes calories, making hormones takes calories
500 a day will lead to a slow death by starvation

you'll die.
normally, you're required to eat, let's say, 2500 calories. cut back about 500, and maybe work off a few hundred.
it is very unsafe to go below 1200 calories a day

Of course you will die, you can't lose more than you take your body can not handle that, you must always take in more than you lose you have to think you lose calories when you sweat as well seek the advice of a dietitian.

You will starve to death. You should never let your calorie intake fall below 1200 calories. Below that, your body assumes that it is starving and it will conserve all calories for as long as possible. Then, when you start eating normally again, your body will put on weight rapidly.
