Cannabis has been used clinically as an appetite stimulant for patients undergoing chemotherapy or suffering from HIV AIDS. However, the mechanism by which cannabis stimulates appetite is unclear. This clinical observation, together with the identification of endogenous cannabinoids and cannabinoid receptors suggests that the endogenous cannabinoid system may play a role in appetite control. This project will investigate the effect of cannabinoids on feeding in rats using behavioural and molecular biology techniques used within the department.

Last time the subject of the munchies came up was in 1977 .. scientists had ruled out dope-induced fluctuations in blood sugar as a cause.
I'm pleased to inform you .. since then .. great strides have been made. As it turns out .. far from being a mere curiosity .. the munchies provide a clue to the workings of one of the body's primary methods of hunger regulation .. the endogenous cannabinoid system.
Your body it seems .. contains specialized proteins called cannabinoid receptors. The best-known cannabinoid is delta 9-tetrahydrocannabinol or THC .. the principal psychoactive ingredient of weed (aka cannabis).
Endogenous cannabinoids .. endocannabinoids for short .. work like neurotransmitters and are produced as part of the built-in apparatus .. by which peripheral parts of the body inform the brain that it's lunchtime. Endocannabinoids and cannabinoid receptors are abundant in the hypothalamus region of the brain .. This plays a pivotal role in appetite regulation. In 1992 researchers identified the first endocannabinoid and named it anandamide .. from the Sanskrit ananda .. meaning inner bliss. In other words .. when you smoke dope .. you are replicating (albeit with much greater intensity) an effect the body produces naturally for itself.
Hunger regulation isn't the only thing endocannabinoids do for the body. Though their action is still imperfectly understood .. a 1998 research paper suggests that they help you "feel less pain .. control your movement .. relax .. eat .. forget .. sleep and protect" yourself against stress. In fact .. some scientists think they're an important part of the body's general stress-recovery system.

Strange that isn,t it while I love my mother dearly she would be the first person in the world to admit she can not cook cakes and things like that I can remember many years ago coming home after having a proper smoke decided to find quick food but the only things I could find was a baking tray full of some sort of fairy cake things so I scoffed the lot burnt bits included! what a mistake that was she decided as a special treat 2 make lots more thinking she had at last found a cake I enjoyed eating ! So be careful what you munch on bro it may come back to haunt you twenty years later on !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOVE U MUM XXX

were you high when you asked this question? you get the munchies because THC is a poison to your body so it tries to flush it out with food and water. that's how you get cotton mouth too. ever notice how after you eat and drink to quench cotton mouth and the munchies you start losing your buzz? it's because the THC has been flushed out. if you want to keep the buzz stay away from your corn on the cobb, and who is joe bucky?

That would be your blood sugar levels dropping.
Cannabis suppresses your dreams. Stop smoking for a few days and see what happens when you go to bed. You will be on a wilder trip with the freaky dreams that you will experience as your body de-toxis.
Ps..Mars bars.

It's what they call a "side effect". all drugs have them.
One of the reasons they give legal cannabis to cancer patients is to increase their appetites.
