Hi,

My fiance and I have recently gotten engaged but are having trouble finding the right place to buy our engagement ring. We would like to buy a high quality diamond (GIA Cert) set in platnium (simple design) and have a budget of $5000.

I never thought it would be SO traumatic or difficult to get something so simple and give someone $5000 of our hard earned cash!

Does anyone have any recommendations/suggestions as I'm getting so tired of walking around the city . . .

If I don't get a ring soon . . . I'm getting a motorbike!!!! heheeh

PLEASE HELP!!!

www.bluenile.com

they are very competitive and it's also GIA cert. Good luck.

you may also want to consider what you MUST have versus what you want. If you go with a platinum band, it'll take a chunk out of your rock... you can go with a 14k white gold and it will look just as stunning. i chose white gold over plat for that reason... and i plan to upgrade the band one day for an anniversary. a white gold band will cost no more than 350. a platinum will cost you about 1000 these days since the price keeps going up.

my advice is to focus on the rock. spend as much as you can on the rock you love... then get a white gold band.

good luck!

Promise earrings are literally not a similar as engagement earrings. A promise ring is a hoop promising to stay authentic to at least one yet another. there continues to be no promise of marrying with a promise ring. An engagement ring is a hoop that symbolized that both human beings comply with get married and plan a wedding ceremony in the close to destiny

I recommend going to www.pricescope.com and doing some diamond research. It is an awesome site and is consumer based (i.e. no selling of merchandise, purely informational). They have preferred vendors that they recommend and you can see a TON of people's rings.

I disagree with the statement that platinum will "look like crap in a year". That is entirely untrue. While it is true that platinum is a softer metal and it can scratch more easily, over time your ring will develop a look which is technically called "patina" which is a little more of a brushed look. If you don't like that look, you can always have your platinum polished by your jeweler.

5000 dollars is a nice budget to work with. I am sure that you will find something that you are satisfied with! Good luck!

First of all, don't bother spending that much on an engagement ring - it sure isn't worth it, Use it as a downpayment on a house, or furnishings, etc.. Secondly, why would you have so much trouble when there is so much out there? If you really loved each other, the ring would just be a symbol of the promise you have to each other, and anything would suffice. Good luck...

$5000? In platinum? Well, it certainly will be a small diamond, then. Find an AGS affiliated jeweler, usually independent or family owned, and tell them what you want. DO NOT go to a mall jeweler! Good Luck!

Try Zales. My husband bought mine there and it is a little bigger than 3/4 ct solitaire in platinum and it was around $5000. Maybe a little over. It is beautiful though and is complimented on many times a day!

Check out bluenile.com I recently purchased a 4k ring from the site that appraised for 8K. It is perfect, exactly what i wanted. It is a three stone, platinum tressel setting, ring. I LOVE IT. and cant recommend the site enough.

We check out malls and stores but found that they were pushy and were over priced.

What size (carats of diamond) are you looking for? I can better help you out. I have relatives in this biz. May be can give you the info - they do GIA certs, etc.

Did you try online? like ice.com, nile.com or something like that?

forget the platinum....go white gold. it looks the same and you can get a bigger diamond if you so choose. when i was picking out my engagement ring my sister-in-law (also my jeweler) suggested this very thing...so go to a local jeweler that's family owned....they will also give you better service because they are there for the hometown pride and making you happy.
