If the dog's food is out there long enough for the birds to get to it, a) you are probably free-feeding and you can change that. b) Give the dog's enough food that they eat it all at one sitting. c) Pick up any food that's still on the ground (in their bowl) after 15 minutes, that way the dog's will know they have to eat it all at once. d) If your yard is fenced, string monofilament fishing line across the area that the birds fly in and out of. Once one of them hits that line, he'll tell all the others to stay out of there. e) Put a plastic or rubber snake on the ground near the dog's dishes, and douse it with Tobasco so the dogs won't think it's a play toy.

Okay this may sound insane, but it actually worked for a man who had an outside dog. I did see this on Ripley's Believe it or not,...but bare with me.

He electrified it,... yup. It kept out ants and birds, seeing as birds have to perch and ants have to climd up the bowl. Obviously there was more of a thought process behind it because you do not want to shock your dogs, but it works on the premise that the animal eating from it is grounded,...and the other pests are not. If your smart and motivated enough to run a kennel I am sure you could make this work. I think he powered it with something as small as a 9 volt,...

and after completing a rigorous search of pet products, that may vary well be your only option, the only things available are anti ant, moat dishes,... so if you do make this and patent it, you know who to thank and pay to keep quiet,...lol hehehe he hasn't patented it!

Well I hope I atleast gave you food for thought,...

Kailyn, Honestly, I have Never found a way to keep, not only birds but, squirrels, opossums, raccoons, cats, well, you get the picture, out of dog food left outside. The only thing I can suggest is that you let your dog eat inside when you get home, if you work, or just feed him inside in the evening, if you are a stay at home wife, mom, like I am. Even ants and other bugs, such as slugs, ugh!, will get in your dog's food if it is left outside! I know because in Georgia I left my dog's food outside. It just did Not work! I will watch to see if anyone comes up with an answer to this problem! Take care! Ro Ro

put a fake owl on the patio near the food, one that is battery operated and moves will work. It will keep them away. It should, unless you have genius birds.

ummm, i have the same problem. i put he food away when they aren't eating, but when i just leave the dogs out they chase the birds away, also you could get a couple bird feeders and put them in a tree in the yard so the birds will eat from there instead.

Build a wooden frame, cover it with screening and put a doggie door in one side. That way the dog can get in but the birds can't.

As the first 2 replied, feed him inside. Or stand watch while he eats and take the leftover food up after he is done eating.
