out for medical reasons. Can anybody tell me something about this London regiment and refer me to somewhere to do some reasearch. He must have been in the guards some time in the mid to later 1800' and ended up in Canada.

The Coldstream Guards originated in Coldstream on the Scottish borders with England. They are one of, if not the oldest regiment of guards in the Army. I am not sure they would like to be described as being from London, although I am sure they have recruits from all over the country!
The best place to begin to research is at the National Achives at Kew in London, where many of the military records are held. The Coldstream Guards themselves should also be able to help.
I have included the links in the sources.
