My niece had a "bar" placed across her palate, and it worked! Check with your dentist. I assume she wants to stop, and you've tried the bitter drops made to paint on her finger, or how about a nice, professional manicure? Mary, RDH

my mom used to dip mine in hot pepper :)....I love hot sauce now.

Why is she doing it? Copying someone? Or is she insecure? Shy? Anxiety? There is a reason.

The article I am providing in the block below might help you - I hope.

If she just does it for the sake of doing it, I'd offer her an incentive. How about taking her to the nail folks and letting her have a pedicure (light pink/to natural). Be treated like a big girl. After you are done (the works, I'd say.....manicure, pedicure, hair for mom and your daughter), she will feel like a princess. Tell her then that for every 30 days she doesn't suck her thumb, you will have a girls day at the cosmetologist. Give her a calendar - every night before she goes to bed if she hasn't suck her thumb, she can X it out. The 30 days start over the day she does suck her thumb - extending her treat day. Just a thought. It might not solve the problem but it will give you girl time together - so special - and you might just find out why she does it.

It took my sister a while - how long is fuzzy - to co- ordinate getting her thumb into her mouth. Frequently it would pop out when she needed it most, making her more upset... However, putting it in for her made her cross, so we just had to not help. She did master it eventually & now proudly sucks both - though not at the same time! Just be patient & it will happen. My instinct would be to not give him the pacifier so that he will try harder to control his thumbs, but that is just a guess. KB

Stop stressing her out! Don't keep focusing on it. And pay attention to her when she is being good instead of reacting to the negative behavior she is displaying to get your attention.

7 year olds still need to be held in your lap, read a book to, or taken for a walk. One on one time, however simple and easy, is important. Make some clay, you get the recipes on line. Then sit down and play with her. Make animals or clowns and other neat things. Laugh with her. Show her you like her!!!!!

My parents bribed me. They told me if I stopped then I could have any toy I wanted (within reason). Maybe tell her she will have to get braces if she doesnt stop (I had to get them) but she might not care or completely understand that.

There's some disgusting tasting nail polish you can buy for just that reason. You can get it at most grocery stores.

talk to your dentist and if he thinks it is needed - there is an appliance that you can have made that will bother her fingers when she puts them in her mouth.
