True Christians know that their faith is being tested.

Not necessarily. There are some things such as trails and if you read the book of Job, it was the devil, who God LET mess with him. Here's a short story to illustrate what a Christian (at least me) thinks when "horrible" things happen....

One day a king in a far away land had a contest. The challenge was for someone to paint what peace symbolized. Two artists took the challenge. One painted a beautiful orange sunset, just about to go down over a calm sea. A couple was seen in the middle, holding hands, obviously in love. The clouds reflected the sun's glory and was absolutely magnificent. The king was impressed.

The second artist showed him a pitch-black sea, with raging waves and lightning in the foreground. The waves were cutting along jagged rocks and it was very violent. However, on the bottom right hand side, in the middle of the rocks, was a little red bird singing.

Immediately, the king announced the winner---the second one. Why? Because true peace is when you are able to sing in the midst of life storms and tragedies.

The Bible teaches us to "give thanks IN everything" not FOR everything. There's a difference. Because I may not know what the future holds, but I know who holds the future. There has been many times that God has walked with me trough my problems, if not even carry me.

hope that helps.........

Most Christians accept the good and the bad with this in mind, that every experience teaches us a lesson that God feels we need to learn. That is why even the most horrible of life events have a purpose and meaning.

1) It is NOT God's work, God allows bad things to happen because this world belongs to Satan and will belong to Satan until God's Kingdom returns under His son, Jesus, the Christ.

2) God does not rejoice in men's sorrows and it hurts Him to see men suffer. However, we all live in sin, and under sin's shadow (death). Therefore, we are all doomed to death, and only thru the ransom sacrifice of Christ can we be reborn on an eternal Paradise earth (think Jesus promising this to the thief at his side, not Heaven, but like Adam and Eve had, Paradise eternally).

3) Under Gods Kingdom, Death and Hades (Death and the Grave) will be destroyed and everyone will live eternally youthful lives, all those who died before will be resurrected to hear the good news of Jesus, the Christ (Annointed) and have a chance to accept him as their Savior. Those who choose so, will live forever, young eternally worshipping God through his son and studying the Universe and having fun forever as God's Children, with no fear or hate in their hearts. They'll never worry about locking their doors, or if a stranger comes to their door, it will be a "brother" they just don't know yet but they can love in Christ.

Most say that everything happens for a reason, even bad things. The idea is that if something bad happens to you, it's all in God's plan for you. It was meant to happen. This idea helps console people.

just because you are Buddhist doesnt mean that because we are Christian that every thing that occures in our days or nights or lives is about our being Christains, or not being good Christians, or about being bad Chrisians- some times things happen or dont happen because, ah say for instance, I got up late and spilled coffee in the car, or got a flat tire, and then ran a red light and got a ticket; or the building fell down because the fire burned it to the gorund- thats it, thats all. Thats not about being A christian. Whats about being a Christain is MY REACTION

That it is god's will. But that's incompatible with the concept of a loving GOD. As the Bible says time and unforseen occurrence befall us all. But many religions teach the former although knowing that this is wrong. They tickle people's ears with a happy message;rather than teach the truth.

I would imagine that "most Christians" would call to mind the scripture in Romans 8:28

"For all things work to the good for those who love God and are the called according to His purpose."

God uses everything to the good----even what we humans would see as "bad."

Only those who do not really know God say such things. As a matter of fact, God says ,"It is my will that you prosper and be in good health". When bad things happen to people, it is never God's will, because He loves everyone and He hurts when we hurt. However, He created a code of conduct for mankind, and as long as they follow it, they have good days because "obedience is better than sacrifice", but if we make the choice to go our own way, we must be prepared to deal with the results of our decisions because "rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft". He mandates those action that cause us to prosper and those which can bring destruction, it all boils down to our decisions, not His. Because He is the God of perfect justice, He will give us the results of our choices, good or bad. Bad things in our lives are not God's will, but our choices. The Bible says," the people perish for a lack of knowledge". If people suffer unduly, it is because they had rather suffer in their ignorance of God than to learn of Him and become wise, because knowledge demands responsibility, and most people reject responsibility for themselves, their choices, or the results of those choices. If you reject God, you reject His desires for your life and embrace the pain of your own ignorance. God gives freely to those who seek Him(on His terms, not theirs), but those who reject Him, they are on their own. You are either with Him or against Him, there is no middle ground, and there is only one formula to get the answer. His Word. The Holy Bible.

I guess it depends on what you mean by "horrible things".
Sometimes, like the country song says, God's greatest gifts are unanswered prayers......
