Mother nature usually is what starts labor - there really is no safe, effective way. You will hear about the "wive's tales" that include taking long walks, hot baths, having sex, taking a laxative, eating certain foods or drinking certain teas, etc. When your body's ready, it's ready. Otherwise a physician or NP could induce labor with chemicals - the same chemicals the body produces naturally when it's ready, just in an artifical form, by injection or placing in vagina. A lot of the time this type of labor is much more painful but is just as effective as natural labor. You can try any wive's tales methods but you just simply may get tired, sore legs, diarrhea, a stomachache, and no labor. Good luck.

Semen helps ripen your cervix and can help it dilate faster.

HOWEVER, no matter what you do, your body will not go into labor until it is ready. The things I listed above will help speed things along, but not if the baby isn't ready to come out in the first place.

If your body is read ad the baby is properly positioned.......spicy food like hot peppers, sex, semen, walking, joggig, stretching can help you dilate, red raspberry tea, black tea, cod liver oil is supposed to help, the doctor can scrape our cervix or break your water ( though only a medical professional should do this or you and the baby could be in danger)....I wouldn't suggest anything that is strenuous compared to how active you have remained throughout your pregnancy.

Lots and lots of walking and deep knee bends. Cod liver oil and orange juice is safe as well but ummm it makes you "go" a lot so I'd stay away from that : )

I'd discuss this with your doctor. You can ask your doctor to schedule you for an induction. Then they will give you an I.V with pitocin in it. This will induce your labor.. Best wishes..

Well, a full moon always helps. If this doesn't work, the baby isn't ready!
