Religious intolerance? What is that all about? Is that a code-word for something else?
If you're asking an honest question, why do you qualify your question with bias built in?
Let me see if I can answer your question.
First, I don't know what an "exhibited religious intolerance" is, but I'm assuming that you're asking why we believe the Bible to be true, and why we believe non-Christian religions are false.
We believe the Bible to be true, first off, because it says it is. Further evidence is that it alone has been persecuted more often than any other religious book. Yet, for all of the attempts, it has managed to survive.
For a humorous example of irony, Voltaire, the French skeptic said, "In less than a hundred years the Bible will be discarded and Christianity swept from the earth." Voltaire died in 1778. The hundred years has long ago passed, but the Bible stands. Voltaire's house in Paris has been used for many years by the Bible Society.
Now, to address Christian fundamentalism, I think it needs to be defined. Here is what a "fundamentalist" believes:
We believe the Bible to be the inspired and only infallible authoritative Word of God.
We believe that there is one God, the Creator and Preserver of all things. He is eternally existent in three persons: the Father, The Son, and the Holy Spirit.
We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, and in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory.
We believe that for salvation of lost and sinful men, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential.
We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is able to live a godly life.
We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost: of them that are saved unto the resurrection of life, and of them that are lost to the resurrection of damnation.
We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ.
Now, if we were to dilute or deny any of these, that would make us, and not God, the arbiter of truth in His Word. That would mean that we have made ourselves into a god, violating the first and second commandments.
The fact that all people in these United States have the freedom to worship (or not worship) as they see fit, is a testament to the wisdom of the Founders. But the Constitution allows those who do worship to have freedom of speech, just like everyone else. And that includes sharing our faith, and speaking the truth.
Often, the truth offends people. But Christ did not tell us to be "tolerant," He told us to go and make disciples. And we do that by sharing our faith, according to the Scriptures, and leave nothing out. That includes Jesus' statement about Himself, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (John 14:6)
And that is why we are assumed to be religiously intolerant. We don't believe all roads lead to God.

The belief in the concept of personal salvation, which is taken (mistakenly, I would argue) as license to sin at will. And of course, intolerance is a very un-Christian attitude, isn't it?
Also, the simplicity of the sects in this movement (Da Bibuh iz da litral wuhd o'GARD!) is particularly attractive to the ignorant. This is not to say that all fundamentalists are ignorant, but a fair percentage (greater than in most religious groups) are.
One of the signature characteristics of the ignorant is their intolerance to perceived differences, even if these are only superficial.
Just watch the reactions this response causes, if you want to see true intolerance.
But don't sweat it. Morons will be morons. Stupidity is its own enemy.

Good question. In my opinion, PRIDE is at the root of most intolerance. Fundamentalist Christians seem to believe they are in an exclusive group and only they are right. Everyone else is condemned to hell in their opinion because they don't believe as they do. We all seem to feel better about ourselves by making others seem worse than we are, although it's a very selfish an unenlightened view. We can break these barriers by gently reminding people that no one is perfect, we are all human with all our human frailities and Jesus was tolerant and loving toward everyone! Even (maybe even especially) sinners! Oh my!

humorous how "Dillicious" and "xoom_ltd" reference the old testomony (that's jewish in starting place) - favoritism and hypocrisy at that's most excellent!!! (or maybe they are afraid to address judaism and prefer an extra effortless objective like christianity - cluck cluck!!!). (with the help of how, that's Leviticus (not leveticus)). notwithstanding in case you want to quote leviticus, it states that any you will be able to be bashed for cursing god, both the interior reach and the alien (leviticus 24:16). yet Leviticus also says that "if a stranger is residing with you on your land, you shall not do him incorrect. The stranger who's residing with you'd be to you because the interior reach between you, and also you shall love him as your self" (19:33-34). I do admit that the bible is extremely contradictory. It says to love your enemy, yet there is also distinct violence. So in case you %. and decide completely unfavorable as against do not begrudge others who %. and decide constructive verses. so a procedures as 'sciencey' kinds, Louis Pasteur, Isaac Newton, Michael Faraday, etc were dedicated christians who were also pioneers in the container of technology (and till you fell asleep in biology type, which it type of feels distinct those so-called atheists have, do not ignore about a touch ol' monk with the help of the call of GREGOR Mendel - who all started what should be commonly used because the container of genetics). certain, this question is one-sided. yet i'd anticipate no a lot less from a self-righteous holier than thou flamebaiter. valuable try glade, yet no cigar.
