Hi, you can sometimes have sleep paralysis, which is harmless, but nevertheless very distressing. My advice would be not to sleep on your back, apparently it's more common for people that sleep on their backs to get sleep paralysis. Happy lucid dreaming : )

I've had many lucid dreams, never using any technique. In fact, I have no idea what the mild technique is. If it doesn't involve the spinal cord, you will not wake up being paralyzed. You may dream you are paralyzed which is of course completely different. But, whenever you are fully aware and awake from a dream, you will not be paralyzed. I would say whatever website you were on is hokey.

Relax. Lucid dreams seem to come easier when you don't try so hard.
The method you want to try is Wake Back To Bed (WBTB) and is the most common I've seen used.
The MILD method is getting it into your subconscious that you want to have a LD or telling yourself that you are dreaming (usually as your going to bed)
WILD is when your mind stays aware and you can enter into your dream.
Sleep paralysis is normal. If you experience pain, usually mild, it is said to be your brain making sure that you are asleep. Stay calm and still- it'll pass quickly.
Doing reality checks all the time helps a lot too.
Also, it's easiest to have LD's when you lay on your back for most people.
Lastly, I tell everyone to check out ld4all.com
Good luck.
About the methods for those of you that can't believe it unless it's experienced for themself...
I have a hard time believing in things such as out of body experiences, but I have used the WILD, MILD, and WBTB methods successfully. So strange as they do sound, they are possible. WILD is the most fun in my eyes. It's harder for me to do though. Keep an open mind; it's amazing what you can do.

no, no no....NO!
I am a champ at this.
Just last night I inhabited my dream of being able to move objects with my mind. I could even levitate to a limited ability to fly for short distance. I am aware of the "signs" which give away the dream state and I am capable of acting on them, relaxing and looking around in my very detailed dreamscapes. The power I can exert is limited and lucidity is not long -lasting.....but it is GREAT. and nothing to worry about!
If you have the SLIGHTEST hesitation, it will prevent you from enjoying any progress!
Any so-called "paralysis" is actually a brief and interesting sensation! That website is fulla gunk!

Lucid dreaming is awesome and I have experienced it only a handful of times. I only had the paralysis once and although a little scary no trauma came of it. It was short lived and I woke myself up by forcing my fist against my dresser. By the way I was sleeping on my back at the time. Happy dreams.

yes i have woken up paralzyed but it is a feeling that you instantly realize.. and usually you wake yourself up and come out of it. when you come out of it, the feeling throughout your body is often very alarming and frightening because you realized you were just awake for a moment and paralyzed
you will not stay paralyzed for long if this happens.. it is a frightening feeling at the time.
lucid dreaming takes alot of practice! good luck.. that is a good technique to use as well
