Hebrews 3:12-14 “Beware, brothers, for fear there should ever develop in any one of you a wicked heart lacking faith by drawing away from the living God; but keep on exhorting one another each day, as long as it may be called “Today,” for fear any one of you should become hardened by the deceptive power of sin. For we actually become partakers of the Christ only if we make fast our hold on the confidence we had at the beginning FIRM TO THE END.”
Once a person is saved, is he always saved?
Jude 5, RS: “I desire to remind you, though you were once for all fully informed, that he who saved a people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe.” (Italics added.)
Matt. 24:13, RS: “He who endures to the end will be saved.” (So a person’s final salvation is not determined at the moment that he begins to put faith in Jesus.)
Phil. 2:12, RS: “As you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.” (This was addressed to “the saints,” or holy ones, at Philippi, as stated in Philippians 1:1. Paul urged them not to be overly confident but to realize that their final salvation was not yet assured.)
Heb. 10:26, 27, RS: “If we sin deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a fearful prospect of judgment, and a fury of fire which will consume the adversaries.” (Thus the Bible does not go along with the idea that no matter what sins a person may commit after he is “saved” he will not lose his salvation. It encourages faithfulness. See also Hebrews 6:4-6, where it is shown that even a person anointed with holy spirit can lose his hope of salvation.)
1 Corinthians 10:12 “Consequently let him that thinks he is standing beware that he does not fall.”

I dont think foolish but religion does teach that and I say that because we don't have to do anything to maintain our salvation because we are not saved by works but by accepting Christ. God looks at the heart not what we do or don't do.

I'm a Christian, but right now I'm a really crappy one. Even though I'm a jerk right now I don't believe that I've lost my salvation. Look at all the jerks in the Bible. Maybe that's God's way of telling us not to worry about it. If you can't lose it, then you automatically maintain it, right??

Actually, it is an intelligent question--that's refreshing on here lately.
Since we always have free will to choose God or not, we always have free will to choose not.
If we reject God's gift of salvation thru Jesus Christ for us, then we lose our salvation. The Apostle Paul put it this way: "I die [to self, and accept Christ's sacrifice] daily."
So the way to maintain salvation is to continue, daily, hourly (or whenever you make a conscious choice) to choose Jesus.

I dont necessarily think you need to 'maintain' it. Its true that once you accept Christ, then you are saved. Now if you wanted to get closer to God then you try to trust in Him more and pray/talk to Him more and just try to have a better relationship with Him. If you want a relationship with God then you will have one. If you are really saved then you will want to do God's will and thats all that He is asking for.

Obedience to GOD's laws!!! This may not be an easy task, but, with the HOLY SPIRIT, anything is possible!!!
If you still think it's impossible, pray for more faith.
