Canada's got class, polite people and a military that's respected world wide for our peace keeping missions. We try to help other countries instead of insulting them. That's why so many non Canadians sew Canadian flags on their coats and luggage when travelling to other parts of the world....because Canadians are respected the world over. We have beautiful scenery, it's clean, and there's tons of things to do. Our medical and education systems are excellent and we are known world wide for our assistance to other countries when they are in need. We care about people and treat them with respect. Canada has been named the best place in the world to live and one of the safest. And Wayne Gretzky, the best hockey player in the world is from Canada, the country that taught the Americans how to play. We have a lot to be proud of.

If one consults the UN Human Development Index, the scoring has been:
2005 - Norway
2004 – Norway
2003 – Norway
2002 – Norway
2001 – Norway
2000 – Canada
1999 – Canada
1998 – Canada
1997 – Canada
1996 – Canada
1995 – Canada
1994 – Canada
1993 – Japan
1992 – Canada
1991 – Japan
1990 – Canada
1985 – Canada
Well, Canada appears more than any other country, although not since 2000. The high price of pertroleum has enabled Norway to maintain a very high level of social services. But for its population size, Canada must have one of the highest rates of immigration. People vote with their feet; they vote for Canada.

Canada is #1 because it is clean, friendly, tolerant & diverse. It has incredible scenery & natural resources. We enjoy great services & free health care as well as being very quick to embrace new technology. We are the world's peacekeepers and like to party like there's no tomorrow.

There are a lot more reasons, but I don't want to enrage any Americans whose brains are so small they can't bear to have any other country praised. See the above answers for examples.

I don't know if it's number one, but it's a beautiful country, and has way more things that are leaps and bounds better than America. Less homicide rates for starters, it's way cleaner, has free/cost's almost nothing healthcare. Those are reason's why Canada is great.

We may not be #1, but we're smart enough not to let a troll like Jzwigger into the country. That has to count for something. It's truly a sad thing to watch a human being degrade himself to the point that state run euthanasia actually begins to look good, should it ever be implemented.
