Hypothetical question, what do you think would happen if all of the worlds religions (that involved belief on a God system) were proved untrue. Would everyone go crazy? Would the entire world go into anarchy? Would France fire ZE missiles?

proof means nothing when people have faith.

Science could come forward with ABSOLUTE proof that a religion was wrong, and people would still follow the religion adamently.

That's the beauty of most religion. It's based on faith. How would you prove it untrue so that people would actually believe you?

It's a moot point. Whatever evidence you could show, people would alter their beliefs around it. In Christianity, for example, how much corruption and errors has the church committed in history:

1) Indulgences - Old fundraising scheme
2) Inquisition - self explanatory (witch burning also)
3) Papalcy moved to Avignon & used as a political tool.
4) Belief that earth was the center of the universe
5) Ex-communicating Galileo (I think he was)

more recently:

6) Bible TV (TBN) - lavish sets with private jets and 6-7 figure salaries for speakers who supposedly beat demons out of people, all the while never failing to ask for more donations.
7) "Miracle Water" that cures any ailment you can think of (another fundraising scheme)
8) Priests by the dozen raping little boys
9) Do gays go to heaven? In the not too distant past it would have been no, but the church's position seems quite vague on this matter now. (i'm not trying to express an opinion for either argument here)
10) How many different sects of christianity are there? Heck, I could start my own if I wanted to.

...and yet people by the millions still have faith in the system.

Sorry this got off topic and is more against the "church" than the religion itself but you get my point. In case anyone cares, I completely believe in God but religion in general...

Amen 2 that.
Don't U Think all religions R on the Brink of collapse, what with 1 thing or another?
Christian Churches here in the UK have split from established churches in Africa over Gay Bishops. The Africans won't except the Anglican Churches position over Gay Clergy.
& I agree Man shall not lay down with fellow man, not just because God says it's wrong but a gut feeling that I know it's wrong & defies the point of life continuing on this Planet.
So far these Religions under various set in folk-law crusades, now either want 2 destroy each others or the Poor Atheists in-between.

God wouldn't that be great? Religion is the root of many major problems. I think most of the world would go into denial. Then after about hundreds of years or so, we'd finally accept it and move on. Of course, there would still be a minor few that would still believe in that crazy stuff. We'll probly think of something new to fight over in place of religion.

To be quite honest, I think that even if there were empirical proof that God does not exist, people wouldn't believe it.

I mean, think about it. There is proof of evolution, but tons of people out there still deny it. I think religious people would come up with numerous explanations for why the proof is false, ranging from the somewhat logical (if you believe in God), "we are only human and don't have the capacity to understand what this proof truly means" to the completely unreasonable, "the Devil put that evidence on earth in order to turn people away from God" and everything in between.

But I don't think people would suddenly stop believing. And as long as some people maintain that God still exists and their religions are still valid, others will follow, because others are followers, and because they won't be able to admit that everything they defended so vehemently turned out to be false.

i beleive for the most part that most of the worlds religions are untrue to an extent. This is because i believe man doesnt use religion for the right reason. it should be used for the sole purpose of worshipping the higherpower that put us here. instead man uses it to control the masses by scaring them. the bible was written by man who has a tendency to lie, however i do believe some-but not all of the things that are in the bible.

People wouldn't believe it.

I read about a cult whose leader predicted some big end at a specific, not-far-off date. A couple of sociologists joined the cult to see what would happen when the date passed.

Basically, nothing happened. The leader said "oops, not this date, but really this other date" and the cult went on as before, following their infallible leader.

Given you theory is correct, I would still rather live as a Christian. The world wouldn't go crazy. On the contrary, according to most non-Christians who bash us, condemn us, demean us, and tell us that the world would be better off without us----you should have a Eutopia!!!

But you know, and I know that Jesus Christ is Lord, and God will be here to judge the world very, very soon.

I hope that works out for ya.

honey baby that would never happen because see God created heaven and earth and he is not a lair, and no I would not go crazy because I know he is real today as he was back in the beginning and the rest of his believers knows that also so you can just take you hypothetical questions some where else and stop trying to hate on God you people need to learn about him and quit trying to find fought in him he is not like us we are of flesh and we are children of Adam and Eve after they disobeyed God so I can kinda understand where you are coming from, but you could if you would get in a good bible teaching church and learn about our heavenly father Jehovah God and learn to accept him and his son Jesus and he can help you to under that he is as real as he was in the beginning I pray that you receive his holy word by the way do you own a bible if not you should get one and pray to him through his son Jesus for understanding and guess what he is such a good and loving God he will give it to you .

This would never happen as each religion is based on it's own local brand of control over the masses by the power brokers by instiling false and deep seated beliefs in order to keep the people in line.

In fact the power brokers wouldn't let it happen because they are interested in keeping their priviledged positions and the status quo as it is.
