Only Congress can create federal laws. The Exec branch can only recommend and suggest. We have squat to say about it....
Congress must pass new laws to deal with the current immigration situation because the existing ones are inadequate for the condition. It's only a "misdemeanor" to be here illegally.

GREAT Answers! We are a democratic republic with an elected legislative branch.
As citizens, we do not always (almost never) have all the information needed to make an informed decision.
We don't always understand why decisions are made, but we are quick to crucify lawmakers. Point fingers, b*tch, whine, and moan.
There are informed people here. Thank you for demonstrating it.

Really? than how did 1 Mom make Jessica's Law pass--it is National . Some are fighting it but losing the battle. You can bring any law in--than it gets voted on.
People can still pull a lot of power even on Federal Law. And I have see animal preserves made where our federal government wanted something else. Gee how did that happen? It just takes determination.
Just look on web-there have been( and still is )requests to change--happens often-hundreds of sites.

Why would we want to have "a say" as you put it in making law. Direct Democracy in this society is wasteful and very very stupid. Do you know how many pages a typical bill is? Some of them run 400 pages long. Why would I trust you (or anybody with a normal life) to read, understand, and make a decision on the matter and to do it over and over again...
I live in California and we have propositions... laws put to the vote of the people and so many good things have been shot down because the public is too stupid to get it. (people do vote correctly some of the time though)
That's why we elect people to do that for us. I put our trust in these congress men and women to make the decisions that reflect the us... the people they represent.
And if we don't like them... we can fire them at the next election. You assume that we don't elect congress people... well that simply isn't the truth.

I find it hard to believe that you could even print that! ABSOLUTELY NO SAY?
I am somewhat cynical, But I tend to think my vote does SOME good.
The Ideal is that our reps, bring forth (sponsor) the Citizens ideas as bills, which may eventually end up as law.
I agree that the office of president often gets a bum rap! Just like a coach, If the team losed it is the coaches fault, and if they win, it is the star athlete's.
I do not think either extreme is a realistic view! I must say that Reagan showed us all what the 'bully pulpit' of that office can accomplish!
VOTE FOR INDEPENDANTS ( and independence) AND VOTE OUT INCUMBANTS IN '08
VOTE FOR ART HAGLUND IN '08
A healthy country, a constitutional government and better choice!

Of course citizens can't make the laws -- we are a republic, not a democracy. This place would be even more insane if the citizens got to make the laws. Democracy does not work, it always kills itself and leads to mass chaos. Republics are the way to go...

Hello?! We elect the people in Congress, that's our say. If they don't do what we want, then we vote them out of office.
What other say would you think we have? Do you think we get to vote personally about laws? It's a representative form of government. Our elected officials represent us.

Duh. How could people be so ignorant of their own country. Go read the Constitution. You should know how ur country is run b4 u even vote. Go learn something.
The founders of the US were scared that if we had a direct democracy like Greece, the majority would persecute the minority so they set up a bicameral legislature which would pass laws.
