His most effective device is to use the name of a benevolent God to work his destruction. Someone who calls himself a Christian, and isn't, does more damage to the image and message of Christ than any atheist.
People who reject these "Christians", often also reject Christ. They equate the message with the messengers.... they don't understand that calling yourself a Christian doesn't mean you are one.

I don't believe that a Devil exists, but I've heard several times that his best device against mankind has been his ability to convince people that he doesn't exist, of which cannot be supported by fact nor logic.

The answer is contained in "The Screwtape Letters" by C.S. Lewis.
It is about a devil of a correspondence. Part of the book is at the site below. Great read!

Sex, from Adam on down. His attraction to Eve made him vunerable. That is why he didn't approach Adam with the offer directly. He knew what the answer might be, so he tempted Adam through Eve and it worked. Satan has many ol' tools in the box, but immoral sex is his oldest and sharpest tool he kills mankind with.

deceiving everyone that the world is ours for the taking, when in fact its all about God's and not for us. That is not our created purpose, but so many of us fall for the false illusions of the world. It's funny that being happy and its pursuit can make us feel the opposite, and when we find ourselves in dire straits, we realize that too late most times, and the devil cleans his hands in boast and points at our dissapointments to deceive us of the right pursuit, the pursuit of becoming the family of God and reaching his family.

Making you focus too much on past mistakes - hurts - wounds - "could have dones" "should have dones" that keep you tripping back into the same sin - fault - or beating self up pattern that distances you from God's forgiveness, mercy and growth in His love ....

The Devil does not exist... but to play along, I'd say religion is the devils favorite tool.
