if one were to believe that in the bible god spoke to people and you believe it.... then why today if one were to tell people the same thing would you be looking for the nearest in paitent mental health facility?

I've asked this question myself, in a number of ways.
The responses I got were "God wouldn't talk to you", "Don't listen to it because it could be Satan", etc.
You're looking for a response to a question that extends beyond what they read in a bible or hear during a sermon.
...And, before you ask (at least according to most) an Atheist couldn't possibly be a prophet of god, even though according to their book, many unlikely persons have been...
(sigh)
So much for thinking outside the box, er, cross.

People believe what they want to believe. If you believe that God spoke to people back in the Bible days, you probably believe it because you are Judeo-Christian. You have to remember that back THEN, LOTS of people DIDN'T believe there even WAS a God who spoke to anyone anymore than people believe NOW that God speaks to anyone even if they really DO believe God does exist! There were no mental health facilities back in the ancient days. People's solution to what they considered mental problems (which would include the belief in God) was to kill them. Also some ancient cultures worshipped different deities and it was unthinkable for them to worship a God they could not see. Their idea of worshipping any god was all of the "gods" that they created. Also, when Christianity was new, it was considered a cult just the same way Hare Krishas, Moonies, Branch Davidians, Fundmantalist Mormons, Scientologists, etc...etc...are considered cults today.

The days of miracles are past.
It is not for us to know.
We see through the glass darkly.
It's a wonderful part of the mystery of the lord.
If you had enough faith you would understand.
Did I get them all? The reason people wouldn't believe it happened NOW is because they don't really believe it happened THEN. What other reason could there be?

The Bible has fancy words in it.. but I'm sure if I went around telling people that God or a mythicalspoke to me, I'd be sent to a medical institution to test my sanity.

because people knew little of mental health issues in the days of the bible. if they knew then what we know now ...

often wondered that myself but ppl think God is telling them to kill other ppl when he is not. the devil can speak to people as well.
