lol -- for a variety of reason, i'd say "cat"

cat-n-mouse (woman -n- man) games
cat fights (fights between two or more women)
getting 'catty' (when women speak badly of each other)
and a variety of not-so-pc allusions, as well!

Now don't take this in a vulgar sense - as it's simply keeping with the animal theme.

A cat. Specifically a "pu$$y" (yahoo! won't let me have that alternative name for a cat!.)

Counters the male 'mouse', as well as having similar animal attributes, weak, soft, shy, and also in a derogatory term for someone weak physically or especially mentally in a bravery sense.

How about a wombat. "Are you a woman or a wombat?" It preserves the alliteration of the original expression. They're moody creatures (see the section on "Wombats and Humans" in the Wikepedia article), so it might be a good fit.
