Because just like you and me...christians are human and like humans, they have their own opinion of what behavior is acceptable to them...usually taught to them by family members and their church organizations. Any time you deal with people who are affiliated with organized religion, you run the risk of running into bad apples. Now before anyone shoots me down...I'm not saying that organized religion is bad because I've went to some churches who had truly wonderful people as members. I'm just saying that there's a bigger risk for "clicks" to be formed. Just speaking from experience, not claiming that I'm expert. Hope that answers your question.

Like everyone else Christians are not perfect. Some really try to be as Christ like as possible. Others say they are Christians because they are members of a church or they associate with that religion because of the way they were raised. They do not strive to be better people but are more content to just live life as it comes and do what pleases them. It would be great if everyone who claims to be a Christian was truly trying to live there lives by the standards the Christ taught.

The word Christian does not mean "Christlike" for starters, that may be the answer to your question in itself. The word Christian denotes one who adheres to the dogmatic precepts of Jesus, namely that he was G-d incarnate and the messiah. In order to be considered a Christian all one has to do is believe those two points and that Jesus dies for thier sins, after that, whoo hoo, you're a Christian.
Now as for the second part of your question, people who claim to be Christians but do not aspire to act more like Christ himself most likely are like that because they are uneducated and immoral. For the educated man knows that the story of Adam and Eve, as well as a good many non historical parables contained in the Bible, are not to be taken literally but as metaphors for a larger message, these stories are put into fairy tale form so that the masses (largely those without education, and no, our public school system here in the States doesn't count as 'education') can understand them. Not to say at all that the Most High has not the ability to do those things contained therein, just that it serves a larger purpose that He didn't.
So, in short, why don't Christians behave better? Most do. The people you're referring to are most likely either those whack job fundamentalists you see on TV, some ignorant red neck hill billy yelling that Allah is the devil, or a young white affluent kid who thinks that they're better than you (for a whole plethra of reasons in their mind, religion just being the easiest ammo to load). Those people are all just misguided and lack the drive to educate themselves, they're ignorant. They'll claim to be followers of Christ, but they don't know anything about Paul of Tarsus and Pauline Christianity, the Council of Nicene, or the political turmoil of the ages surrounding the formulation of Christ as a Diety. Blind faith is that of the masses and the only thing you can do is ignore them. Hope that answers your question to some extent.

Some are some aren't. We are all human after all. Many of us are on different parts to this journey we call life. We Christians should all try to live "Christlike" lives. If we all lived as Christ I believe that by our very lives we would attract many who do not believe.

Christians, like myself, don't claim to be perfect. It's hard to be Christlike, because He was so perfect. That's not an excuse though to not try anymore. I try to do what's right and be nice to people but people don't appreciate the word 'try'.

You are correct that the word Chrisian means to be Christ-like, but it DOES NOT MEAN to be Christ. Ain't no one that perfect, and we're just smart enough to know that. Too bad more people didn't think they were God. God Bless you.

The people who attend church and often get caught up in the dogma of their denomination. Simply being a nice person and dealing with life the best you can is very Christlike..

Some do try. But to be like Christ requires work, love, sacrifice, humility, generosity, and mercy. Most people don't want to embrace these values when it's easier to be lazy, hateful, greedy, proud, and/or unforgiving.

alot of them are confused by modern religion. You see, organized christian religions, catholic, protestant, lutheran, etc, have all this shitty crazy rules that are absolutely no where in the Bible. If they just read the bible and practiced their religion on their own, or in the company of others, and not at the first baptist church of wherever, they probably wouldn't be like that. Catholics don't even read the bible.

Whenever I talk to heavily christian people I find only hatred and exclusion. Maybe instead of loving themselves they should try to love others. It seems that christians have become confused. Maybe they thought when the bible said 'god created us in his image' that we were supposed to do his judging for him.
