If you look like the avatar as much as you say you do, go with red highlights if you are 100% going for highlights. Plus maintain them well with shampoo that keeps them from fading away over time.

I'm about the same color as my avatar, olive skin and dark hair. I have long hair with front park has whispy bangs that go along the sides. Highlight lightens and brightens the hair, while a lowlight darkens and deepens it. Blonde, gold and chamomile tones for highlights; reds, plums and aubergine shades for lowlights.
In the summer I usually go with honey/golden highlights and in winter just to make my dark hair look more "alive" I go with low lights.
If you want a sunkissed look go with honey if you want to deepen your look go with lowlights. You might want to get some golden/red highlights a middle ground. Just ask your hair dresser. Once you get your highlights or lowlights you want to use a shampoo that will help your color from fading. Try Pantene Color Revival it helps hair keep healthy and the color from fading. Plus it's not expensive.
Either way you will have fun!!!!

Skin tone and eye color can be a big hint i what you should do with your hair. Your best bet is to talk to you cosmetologist. You don't have to go in to get your hair done. All you have to do is walk in and ask. Most cosmetologists are trained pros in this area and would be able to get a better look at you to tell. They usually don't charge anything for advice.I have found from experience that both highlights and lowlights can look good together. If you are seeking a pro, ask for a foil wrap. They can do both at the same time. If you are trying to do it at home, ask someone who has expeience with hair for a little help. Anyway, good luck!
