Pre K or Headstart is all basically preschool. I have kept my children home until they were 4 for any kind of preschool and they are well balanced and my daughter enjoys school. I think it depends on your child and how much interaction your child thrives on. No headstart is not required. I know people who have started their children in headstart at 3 and their children enjoy it. I think it's what you feel is best for your child.

Head start and pre k are not really the same thing. In my state neither headstart, prek, or kindergarten are required. Children don't have to attend school until the child is 6 years old and in first grade. My daughter went to preschool at 3 and it did wonders, for socialization and personality. She also started kindergarten at age 5. Your local school should be able to tell when your child should start kindergarten if you are interested in her going, because most school have cut off ages for entering both pre k and kindergarten. If you qualify for head start, I would suggest you send her, especially if she hasn't been around other kids her age. I hope that I haven't condused you more, GOOD LUCK.

Pre-K kids usually have to be 4 before August 31st, but I am sure this varies school to school. For Head Start I think it is 4. Kindergarteners are typically 5 or 5 1/2 by the first day of school. Head Start is not required. it is a government assistance program for kids and parents in low income situations. Pre-K is also not required. Kids can do just fine starting school in Kindergarten.

When a child starts kindergarten depends on a couple of things. First is where their birthday falls, it is common if a child turns five after Oct. they will have to start the next year. There is also other criteria besides age that factors in. They need to know there alphabet, count to at least ten, know basic colors and shapes, be able to spell their name, and maybe a couple of other things. Where I live we don't have preK, but we do have headstart and I would imagine that preK teaches the same things, but headstart is for families that are low-income or have a disabled child.

head start is for like 3 and 4 year olds. Pre-k is for 4 and 5 year olds. I live in Georgia and pre-k nor headstart is required for kids to start kindergarten. It depends on when your child turns 5 also. Both of my kids have late b-days, OCT & SEPT. They will both be almost 6 when they start Kind.
My 5-year old loved pre-k and learned so much. He starts Kindergarten in Aug.

no, headstart/pre k isn't required but most kids start it around 4 years old, sometimes 5 when their birthday is late. It's a good program to get your child into because they can be already ahead when they go to kindergarten.

Where I live, Headstart is for low income families. Most pre-schools/Pre-K programs start at 3 but the child must be potty trained.

Depends on when the birthday falls, too. My daughter will be almost 6 when she starts kindergarten. She was close enough to the cutoff (Dec 2 here) that I got to choose whether she went last year or not, and I decided to wait. (Boy, am I glad I did! But that's another story)
As for pre-K, depends on the school. The Montessori one she went to had kids 3-5 in it. They had to be potty trained. They offered half or full day, too. Pre-K isn't required in my state, though.

I always say put them in headstart (3years) if they enjoy going it teaches them early on how school is going to be and how to interact with other children their own age.. Also it would surprise most people at how much fun they have playing and learning numbers, colors and daily routine.. I say if your child likes it then go for it.. If not then wait a while and try it again..

My daughter is about to be 4 in a week and she will just be starting preschool in Sept. I believe Head start is just a way to prepare your kid for school. It is not required in WI and pretty sure nowhere else.
By the way, no school will allow a child under 4. The only place i know of around here is our local YMCA. They have "school" for 3 year olds.
