I'm a lapsed Catholic which ay not be what you're after. But I don't think Leonardo painted Mary Magdalene anywhere in the Last Supper. I do know enough about early Christianity to know that the Holy Blood, Holy Grail version of events (incorporated into Da Vinci Code) is sheer nonsense.

The secret is that Christ had a child with Mary Magdelene and that blood line still survives today. As for do I believe it? I don't know, it is definitely interesting and there certainly is quite a bit of evidence to debate on both sides. I don't think it will be a theory that is going to survive that I'll see in my time. It's too radical an idea for today's churches. Do some reading (besides The DaVinci Code), get informed so you can make a good decision on what you believe.

For some reason the powers that be think that we ordinary folk (I was raised Catholic and practiced it till I was 32) could not handle it if, in fact, Jesus was married to Mary Magdalene. My son (who is 32) has a theory that gives him comfort, that if Jesus was married to her, He looked down from the cross as He was dieing into the eyes of the woman He loved and who loved Him above all else. I don't understand why it would be so hard to believe that Jesus could have been married. He was way beyond the traditional age of marriage for Jewish men. Do people think that a sexual relationship inside the bonds of matrimony would have made Him impure? It's a lot to think about.

P.S. I'm currently reading The Da Vinci Code and I saw the movie.

The painting in question proves nothing as it was painted many years after Christ. It is no more accurate than a painting painted today. John is the disciple seated to the left of Christ not Mary Magdalene, he is portrayed as a young man.
Critics of the novel's theories also point out that:
This is an exert from an article about the painting it was written by art historians.
"While damage makes it impossible to be sure of the figure's gender, it appears to be wearing male clothing.
There are only thirteen figures in the painting, so if one is Mary Magdalene, an apostle is missing: somebody would have noted a missing male apostle earlier."
Christ was not married. Plain and simple truth.

A Pastor wanted to raise money for his church, and on being told there was a fortune to be made in horse racing, he decided to purchase one and enter it in the races. At the local auction however, the going price for a horse was so high, that like Jesus, he ended up buying a donkey instead.
He figured since he had it, he might as well go ahead and enter it in the races, and to his surprise, the donkey came in third.
The next day the local paper carried this headline: "Pastor's *** Shows"
The pastor was so pleased with the donkey that he entered it in the races again, and this time it won!
The local paper read: "Pastor's *** Out Front"
The Bishop was so upset with this kind of publicity that he ordered the pastor not to enter the donkey in another race.
The next day, the local paper read: " Bishop Scratches Pastor's *** "
The Bishop was fit to be tied. He ordered the Pastor to get rid of the donkey.
The Pastor decided to give it to a Nun in a nearby Convent.
The local paper, hearing the news, posted this headline the next day:
"Nun Has Best *** in Town"
The Bishop fainted. He informed the Nun that she would have to get rid of the donkey, so she sold it to a farmer for ten dollars.
The next day, the paper printed: "Nun Sells *** For $10.00"
After the Bishop was revived, he ordered the Nun to buy back the donkey and lead it to the plains where it could run wild.
The next day the headlines read: "Nun Announces Her *** Is Wild and Free"
The Bishop was buried the next day.

I think it is St John, which is totally consistent with standard Christian iconography. (St John was believed to be the youngest of the Apostles -- still in his teens, so of course he 't be bearded).

There are many things that could rock Christianity, but none of them are in the Da Vinci code: a) the discovery of the grave of Jesus; b) the discovery of a Roman account of the trial; c) a "behind the scenes" account of the Council of Niceae; d) an authentic letter from one of the real Apostles.

None of these are likely to turn up.

Da Vinci code movie and book is based on fiction. Leonarda Da Vinci by the way was a homosexual. Dan Brown just made the movie and book so he could gather in a lot of money.

Leonardo Da Vinci's picture of the Last Supper was painted in 1498.

Da Vinci had no more idea of who sat next to Jesus Christ at the Last Supper than any of the rest of us.

Mary Magdalene may have been at the Last Supper but she is not mentioned in any of the Gospel accounts.

With love in Christ.

I was raised Catholic and personally I think it's logical that jesus would have been married to Mary Magdalene and had children. After all he was human.
