yes you can use same amount of water and milk thats how us poor folks eat it when you dont have the money for meat take it from me it aint that bad some of its pretty good with out meat Down in the south we just call that "helper"

Most of the times that I've made hamburger helper, it has been without hamburger. However, it has been so long since I made it that I'm not sure what I did.

Why couldn't you.....add some fresh garden vegetables in place of meat; keep liquid amount the same. Without any vegetables, decrease amount of water by half and keep an eye on the skillet. Experiment a little!

I've made the one that pretty much looks like mac n cheese without hamburger. It was ok.

Ya you can buy morningstar farms vegetarian crumble. It works just fine in place of hamburger. Wife is a veggie so that what I make for her when its my turn to cook.

Yes - I've made it without adding meat. I kept everything the same - just added some vegetables. I liked it!

Yah, it also tastes good plain, although there are other helpers that are supposed to be made plain....

Sure, if you want, you can use ground chicken or ground turkey. Same proportions of everything else. If you want to do it vegetarian, I'm not too sure if it will work.
