My four year old son just started biting. He does it when he gets mad about having his way. Any ideas about why this just started and what I can do. Also I have never had any of these problems with him before,

Use time-out. One minute per year of age. This is an impulsive thing. He is not using his words when he is angry and is lashing out instead. Use time out, and when he is over being angry, talk about appropriate things to say when angry.

One thing I do with my son: we made a game out of "Find the Right Thing To Say." I give him an example such as, "Is it nice to say, 'gimme that toy!' or, 'Can I have that toy please?'" This game teaches him ways to say things politely. I think you could probably find ways to adapt it to your child's anger issues by playing this type of game with him. He's old enough to be able to use his words effectively.

Of course biting him and hitting him aren't going to work, you're only REINFORCING the violent behavior. IF he is drawing blood you could be held accountable. The parents of whomever he bites had better be taking their child to the doctor and as a parent who has done so I would expect YOU, the biter's parents to pay for it. The only things I can suggest is to remove the child from the environment he is in until he learns not to bite. Also find out WHY he is biting. I'm willing to bet it has something to do with being taught violent behavior in the home. Children's first and most important teachers are their parents...

I tried everything!! The only thing that worked was biting her back and she never did it again!! But it also made me cry. She bit the baby when she was just a couple days old and I finally just couldnt take no more and without thinking bit her. Never did it again in 6 years to anyone

As wrong as it sounds bite him just once, he'll never bite again. Another idea is everytime he bites try putting a drop of lemon juice on his tongue.

I know this sounds really mean but bite him back just as hard as he bit you. I had to do that to my little girl but she never did it again.

Just don't abuse him, please! Make him wash out his own mouth while you tell him that biting is very bad. Do this every time he bites you. The more times he bites the more soap you use and the longer the lecture.

Bite him when he bites you. Not too hard but enough to make him realize that it hurts. good luck

sounds like he's stuck in his terrible two's. many people think its just two they do it, but it can go on for awhile. most likely he picked it up at daycare or pre-school. monkey see, monkey do. i haven't known a parent that hasn't had a child pick up bad habits from some daycare or pre-school.
