I am an Atheist. I have read and studied the bible. I have attended chruch. I have studied many different types of religion. And after all of this I made an informed and educated decision to not believe in god.

Now....why do so many believers tell me I should not be here because it is the religion/spirituality section? I can ask/answer iintelligently about religion. Why don't I have a right to have a disscusion about god?

you and i and everyone like us and people who believe in many gods or whatever deserve to use this space too...my husband fights for this country for the freedoms that usa stands for.... he and everyone like him put their lives on the line for EVERYONE to have these rights

people who think you dont have a right are just scared they will change their ways because we may have a better arguement then them (before people get pissed the door swings both ways post here and maybe one or two of us will think your correct)

I am pagan. I have no religious beliefs and I am incredibly spiritual, more so than a lot of so called xtians in here, I feel!
My reason for spending the majority of my time in this section is simple. Nearly all my life has been devoted to religion and spirituality in the past. This is what I know about the most. I would then, be quite foolish to go to the computer programming category for example, to answer questions on something I know nothing about!
It amazes me that even an xtian cannot get this fact into their heads!!! I feel it is more than likely that they are quite simply threatened by the way their beliefs are so weak when challenged by rational people.

Sure, everyone gets angry sometimes, but sorry xtians, you CANNOT have it both ways! You believe your bible to be the absolute truth, yes? THEN STOP MOANING when you feel you are experienceng it's truth by being 'persecuted'(obviously they have NO understanding of the word!) as it claimed you would be!

Have xtians never heard of the saying "sticks and stones will break my bones but words can never hurt me"??

You do. You do!

Ask away. I welcome your intelligent conversation. A person after my own heart. Only I went the other way. I started by not believing in God and studied the many different religions, sects, beliefs etc and intelligently chose to follow Jesus Christ and his teachings. They were the only ones that gave me hope. I didn't base my beliefs on my deplorable experiences at church or what other Christians said. I based it all on what the Bible teaches.
At one time my beliefs were a little jumbled by all that I had studied but eventually and through the guidance of the Holy Spirit my beliefs began to sort out and follow the teaching of the Bible.

Brainwashed I am not, for you see I pursued this truth. And it met me in the form of the forgiveness of God through Jesus Christ. What a burden was lifted from my heart when I intelligently accepted his gift of redemption. And those aren't just the words to a song but actually happened to me.

My favorite verse depicting this event is found in Psalm 116.

My faith is not a religion it is a life.

Religion: Mans feeble attempt to reach God on their own strength and power.

Neither religion nor spirituality have anything to do with God. Religion is a name given to a common interest group where ppl follow the same divine being, not necessarily "God". Spirituality can be anything you wish it to be from pagan practices to Hindu, to worshipping flowers. Everyone is welcome to post in this section. If you come in wanting an argument from diehard Christians you will get it, but your question does not seem inflammatory. There is nothing offensive about questioning and seeking. Probably you will just get ppl wanting to convert you..lol..but you have to make your own choices regardless of what other ppl think.

No, you have the legitimate right to question any belief or religion you wish to but the query should be logical. I can understand your trouble because I was myself a sort of atheist for long time though I should accept that I am not an Atheist now.

The people who suggest you not to visit this section are actually developing cold feet because of your questioning, I will say keep it up until you find the truth.

you have an absolute right

but...2 things:

1. this area is entitled "religion and spirituality" -- some may view the question of an atheist as an intrusion...maybe a question in another category might not be as problematic

2. the Q+A format doesn't invite feedback and dialogue. A chat room or discussion group is more conducive to actual exchange of ideas.

Freedom of Speech. If you have a belief, great. If you do not, great. You are the one who has to live your life on what you do or do not belief. Just be tolerant to those who differ in opinion, as they should do to you. Name calling has never accomplished anything historically. It just make the position that you have, weak.
Who knows, down the road, after you have lived life for awhile, you might change and go into whatever religion touches your heart. That is the great thing about free will.

Religion and spirituality are two different things. Religion is about politics. Who makes the rules, what those rules are, and how to interpret and enforce those rules.

Spirituality is about the spirit. The soul. It is between you and God, Allah, Buddha, gods, the universe, whatever name you want to put on the lifeforce.

Even an atheist can dance with life.

Ignore the ignorant people, and dance with life. By whatever name you wish to call it.

You are welcome here. Who said this place has restrictions? You do not believe God because you looked for Him and obviously did not met a proper answer. I ask permission to say you some words, without intent to change your view point. If some day you feel good you will change it, as you have already done. The words are: We cannot look for something that does not exist... it is impossible. OK! Think about and remember that most people that say do not believe God, they are referring to god as presented by Religions and God is something different.

You absolutely have a right to be involved in a discussion with God, I sure won't stop you. No one will try to force you to believe in God, at least I won't. However, I am guessing that Christians such as myself will take offense if you try to convince us in your arguments that God does not exist.

It does seem a bit odd though that for someone who apparently doesn't believe in religion, that you would WANT to come here. That tells me that you are just interested in stirring up controversy and love the stimulation of a good argument.

no it is not the "only if you believe in god" section.

however, the section is devoted to spirituality and religion

religion can be a drag, spirituality on the otherhand is where it's at. i am sure the so called atheist has a degree of spirituality. please allow me to offer my/a definition of spirituality:

in order to have spirituality i must be willing to turn my life and my will over to something. something? anything? even a bottle of booze. even a computer or yahoo answers. question: what dominates my thoughts? whatever dominates my thoughts is very possible my higher power and then i have a relationship with that 'something'

so: spirituality is my relationship with my higher power

and, you don't have to believe in god to enter this section
