Oh, they both sound nice. If you have several bridesmaids you could do both - especially at christmas time, that would be lovely. Your champagne bridesmaid could carry marron flowers and vice versa, and the bridal bouquet could be maroon, white and champagne color - you could even get alternating cumberbund for the grooms men.
If you have to pick one, I'd say maroon. The deep, dark red against the brides dress will be stunning (off white for the season?). The champagne won't give much pop and will, of course only work with a pure white bridal gown, if you want the bride to be the center of attention.
Peace!
PS - to the next answerer - the fewer gifts were more likely due to it being a 2nd marriage than it being a winter ceremony.

An all white and champagne is beautiful for the wedding chapel with just a few maroon flowers in the brides bouquet to bring the focus even more on the bride. All the men's and bridesmaids flowers should be all champagne. The guys would wear white/off- white tux with champagne cumber bun and tie and the groom might do a maroon tie, etc.You could use maroon in the flowers, table clothes, etc in the reception. You could use a few small maroon flowers on the pews or chair rows end decorations in the wedding area. I would be careful of the pics backgrounds with either color so the whites don't look washed out and the maroon clothing won't be invisible against a dark wall. My daughter's pics had only white teeth showing with 2 of the groomsmen who were black and had on black suits on a dark brown wooden wall. Funny, yes but not a good pic!

Have both! One girl wear maroon and the next girl wear champagne, and so on. Or have the flower girl wear champagne and the the bridesmaids wear maroon just to jazz it up. Good luck.

Champagne is so elegant and beautiful. Remember that your make up should also be natural. Women tend to use darker and heavier colors when wearing colors like maroon which does not look good in pictures.

maroon is the better choice. use champagne as an accent color for the flowers of the bridesmaid...
i love champagne... but the color will look dirty next to a white bride's dress... and if the bride wears ivory, it will look too similar... there won't be enough contrast. champagne can be used as an accent color on the white bride's dress...
good luck!

Champagne sounds pretty to me, but your sister should really make that decision. Consider the coloring of the bridesmaids. You don't want them to look washed out and sickly.

Maroon..I think champagne is too close to a cream white...the bride should be the only one wearing white or off white

Either color is fine - maroon would be more in tune with the season. Whatever your sister wants she should have, the colors need to be something she loves, it doesn't matter what month it is - just make sure she is happy with the colors.

Your wedding is in December, and you are celebrating your wedding, not Christmas. Unless, you do want to tie into the Christmas meaning with your wedding some how. If not, then champagne would be more in celebration of your wedding.
Maroon is very pretty too, and I can see your conflict. But do you want people thinking of your wedding or Christmas?
