no difference because you really can't tell what genders will show up at an unsupervised party. and alcohol & drugs have no gender. bad judgment has no gender. I think 18 is a good age to let them go to unsupervised parties. I have experience raising several kids and bad things happen with unsupervised parties of under 18. Of course you can have partially supervised (where you leave and go to the store or you are inside and the kids are outside swimming or you drop them off at the roller rink and come pick them up later or drop them at the movies...you get the idea) try the partially supervised stuff first. Like you can leave the 15 yr old girls or boys or mixed group alone for an hour. Then come back, make sure everything is ok then you can leave again for an hour. Or call and check in between.

There is no way they can attend a party that does not have adults at it.
Either they are children or teens, and there needs to be a responsible adult there supervising, or they are over 18, in which case they themselves are legally adults, and I would strongly stress to them that, as legal adults, if they are with other teens then THEY are going to be the one to "take the fall" if and when there's any trouble.
But, since both my kids will turn 18 while still in their Sr yr, even if they are 18, as long as they are living with me and in high school - it goes back to the whole no unsupervised party thing.
Now, this doesn't mean that there has to be someone sitting there staring at them the whole time - I have no problem with, say, a party downstairs while the parents are reading back in their bedroom, with the door open, or a party outside while the parents are in the kitchen, etc...

I personally do not think a child should be allowed to go to a unsupervised party until they are 18 and become an adult.

It depends if you know the kid who is having the party..I'm 14 and my parents don't really let me go to unsupervised party's. In a way i think that's good because it takes alot of temptations away from me, and it's also bad because it makes me want to do it more. It depends on the child, and when you trust them enough to be responsible. Make sure they know that actions ave consequences.

When they move out of your house. If this party is at someone elses house...and something bad happens...you could be liable. There should always be a parent available if the kids are under 18.

Depends on what you mean by 'unsupervised'. What is 'unsupervised' to you?
I'd say either...
A. When she's a senior in high school; or
B. When she's displayed exceptionally wise behavior

I agree with the majority, 18 is the age so that you are not held responsible for any mishaps that may occur!
