I am not familiar with AVR300 but I know that the older models of Harman Kardon were not 5.1 or DTS models. They were only surround amps, if that is the case with yours then it is time to upgrade. Personally I prefer the Yamaha amps or ampli/receivers. I am using a Yamaha Rx V540, it is 6.1 output and my friend who is a Harman Kardon fan and owns 2 Harman Kardon sets one is DTS and other is plain surround found my system sounding much better. You can go in for one of the newer Yamaha series but buy one that has equal power (watts RMS) output on all channels. It helps in getting better effects on your rear speakers.
