It is possible that your Grandmother does not accept that her child (your mom) has passed on before her. It is not the way we think it should be. I would bet also, that you resemble your mother...Just humor grandma, and hug her often..and don't mind if she calls you by your moms name. It is a way for her to find peace and deal with things.

I didn't mind when my grandma called me by my mom's name - though I had to think about it when she called me by the dog's name. How she loved her pets - I was flattered, actually.

I call folks by the wrong name occasionally and I have nicknames for just about everyone too. I think it is an endearment.

Peace!

The first answer was good.
Also, it's a common mistake that people make and she doesn't mean anything by it. I do the same thing. I call my granddaughter by my sister's name or her mother's name. It makes her mad but it's not a purposeful mistake. It's just has something to do with the way the brain is wired.

awww I think that you should feel honored by your grandmother. It means that your grandmother really really misses her daughter, and that you remind her a lot of your mother. Your grandmother may have a lot on her mind and may get confused sometimes. We "older" people do that when we age.

If it bothers you or makes you unconfortable, you can just keep reminding her.... grandma, my name is ***. but don't say it in a way that it will hurt her feelings.

Your grandma misses your mom as much as you do.

Your grandma is remembering your mother because you remind her of the good times she shared with her.

My grandchildren do things that remind me of their mothers when they were little.

Like the way they hold their hands, their walk, some of the cute things they say and do.

I am sorry to hear of your loss of your mother.

I lost mine 11 years ago. I miss her too.

because you remind her of your mom when she was your age.
because she is used to a youngster around being your mom.
our brains are like that. most parents and grandparents do this.
it's not on purpose. just smile and realize she is speaking out of times gone past.

Probably because you remind her so much of your Mother! She lost her daughter and is turning to you! Just love her! It's so lonely when they are all gone!

Sounds like your grandmother's mental health may be declining, maybe she is having a little dementia. This is very common.
