I have an 8 foot table with three piece 1 inch slate that I've inherited. I need to take it apart and move it. How do I do this? What tools will I need? How do I get the rails off? How many people will need to help me?

Once its arrived at its destination, I'm going to let a professional installer put it together, put new felt on it, and level it.

One inch thick should not be too heavy for two people, please be careful with the weight.

You will need:

Needle nose pliers for taking out staple from the cloth.
Socket wrench for the bolts.
Screwdrivers
Hammer possibly
Razor blades (flat)
Dust mask
Garbage bags
Wrench
Allen Wrench for the pocket

These are generic and what I can remember when I was taking apart 10 foot snooker tables and 9 foot pool tables from Brunswick.

Take out the pockets first
then
You will need to start with the rails. Take them off by removing the bolts from underneath the table. They should be spaced out between the pockets
Remove the cloth by pulling out the staples.

When the cloth is off you will need to break the seams that hold the slate pieces together. use the razor blade to clear whatever was used to keep it together. The slate should be held down by bolts. You will need to remove them to take the slate apart.

Good Luck..

You may need modified instructions depending on your table.

Disassemble is easy job, firstly take the side panel off ( usually 2-3 screws holding the panel) then you will see all the hidden screws or bolts, undo them, do the same for other side panels. After that remove the 3 slates and the rest is a matter of undoing more screw or bolts.
Dont be scare of the weight of 1 inch slate it is not that heavy but you do need another mate to help.

Aside from the advice DC gave you, most of the newer name brand tables (like OlHausencome with a piece of hardware or two used to detach the rails, pockets. Check under the table to see if the installer taped it underneath.

Call a professional....especially if it's slate.. that weighs a ton. It would be a shame if the slate was broken.

Good luck on your move!
