I can relate! For years I straightened my hair daily and suffered the consequences. My hair became dry, brittle, and broken. My recommendation? Try to wear it natural as often as possible. It takes some getting used to, I know, but I actually get more compliments on my hair now that I wear it curly.
If you can't bear to do this, try to not shampoo everyday. Most people don't need to, esspecially if you're heat styling everyday. You'll get more wear out of each styling. If you get a little oily between shampoos, try a 'dry shampoo'. Simply sprinkle a little baby powder or cornstarch in your hair to dry up the oil and use your fingers to tousel it through until you can't see white anymore. It really works! (just make sure you don't use too much).
Also, you might try sleeping on your wet hair. Mine is always flatter when I do that. Then it might be easier to straighten. Also, a straightening serum is generally helpful. (you always need some kind of protective product when you use a straightener!) Avoid hairgels, since most contain drying alcohol. Just a side note, I read that if you sleep on a satin pillowcase rather than a cotton one, you'll have less bedhead. You might be able to stretch your styles that way, also. Same goes with towel-drying your hair. The terrycloth roughs up the cuticles, causing frizzies. Use a t-shirt or jersey knit fabric instead. :)
Hope this helps! I know it was kind of scattered info, but I've learned a lot battling with my own mane!

Give your hair a rest between time trying to straighten it! Hair can get tired, just like other things. So, if it is a humid or rainy day...put some gel/mousse in it and let it dry wavy. After waiting a few days, blow dry it again and then put some Biosilk (or something else like that) in it to give it some texture. Then try straightening it. It might not be perfect or straight as a board. Make sure you are sectioning it off and doing a small bit at a time...and don't burn it!
But give your hair a break! Love it...don't expect it to bow to your every whim! Just appreciate it as part of you and be thankful for what you can get from it!

There is a website which recommends a process called "thermal reconditioning". (see below)
But your hair sounds pretty. Could you learn to accept, and even enjoy, the texture you were born with?
I have similar-type hair and struggled for years, until finding a good haircutter--Vidal-Sassoon trained (if you want to look up this type of haircutter in your area).
The right haircut is the key to liking your hair.
Find someone who can look at your hair and cut it according to the wave patterns and the way it grows.
Maybe you would look outstanding with wavy & not ribbon-straight hair.
(I know; I know; I too spent years wanting a different kind of hair than what I have in reality!)
Thermal Reconditioning
is an innovative new technique from Japan, which enables those with frizzy, curly or wavy hair to experience permanently straight hair, while at the same time preserving the health of the hair. It improves the feel, texture, softness and shine, while leaving it completely manageable.

u can get it chemically straitened but shop around b/c some products really kill your hair but others dont .. so ask a lot of questions ... also if u do chemically straiten it .. tell all ur future stylists b.c if u get color and they dont know it can make ur hair break off ... so be honost .... ummm other wise .. try straiting starch (used with the good flat iron) ... Alterna makes one ... called straitening starch ... smells awesome (strawberries) it costs about 20$ but it really works good ... also ... u can use a heat protectant ... a lot of companies make them ...Redken has one called Heat glide .... this protects ur hair from the harshness of the heat from the flat iron .... u need this if u flat iron every day .... dont use farouk's Biosilk ... with heat this is no good it will dry ur hair out ..... sooooo 1st thing 1st ... use a straitening cream ... Redken Align while u blow dry .. get as strait as u can .. then use the Redken Heat glide (small amount) or u will get greasy) then u can use a straitening starch (alterna) this is what makes it strait (you will see steam , dont worry u hair is not burning off) then an anti-humectant spray after .. and if this dosent work .. then get it chemically straitened ... otherwise dont fight it and go curly...

It received't enhance your probabilities of inheriting baldness, notwithstanding it can make a number of your hair fall out in case you do not use sufficient product. I say straighten your hair in case you imagine it makes you seem solid, because you in basic terms have a million existence to be alluring.

My hair is kind of like yours since it's really curly and frizzy on the bottom and straight with a wierd wave on the top. It is also very weak, so there are tons of broken pieces. I suggest that you use a shampoo made to help stop frizz or made for curly hair or go to a salon and see what they would recommend.

I'm not so smart with wording, but dont they do something at salons that can strahten it? If so when they do, ask them how they did it...or just cut your hair below your ear and straighten it then...it will work that way too.
