try leaving the bleach on for a long, long time until the highlights look almost translucent (transparent) and than you'll get the perfect highlights, I have the same problem 'cause of my hair being so dark and once I went to the salon and had them done...since than I have never been at the salon again 'cause I do them myself...it's easy, and remember do not get nervous thinking "ohhh it's so blond" it won't be as blond once it mixes with the rest of your hair....

It's difficult to highlight black hair because highlights are supposed to look natural, i.e. a shade or two lighter than the hair. I've seen black hair with very thin strands of blue highlights (dark blue) and also dark violet or plum highlights. That might look good (if somewhat dramatic).

The only highlights that look nice on black hair are VERY minimal tiny tiny tiny metallic blue or .bronzy highlights. Don't make them HUGE otherwise they will look terrible. Remember, just a few hairs, no more. Try'em and see.

Highlights on black hair never looks nice. It just doesn't work. My hair is red, so that means I can't wear pink or red. Everyone has things they cannot do.

It really depends on what your style is, and what color you are wanting to get. e.g., if you wanted to go for a goth/punk style, try getting red highlights. I have red ones, and it looks absolutely fantastic.

dark highlights ... i know its an oxymoron ..caramel, dark red, chocolate brown,, chestnut ,, but not blonde whatever u do ... ...
look in the mirror at ur eyes and look at the flecks of color ... are they reddish,, light brown,,, medium ... take that into consideration and go for it ... if they are warm red .. get red ... light brown get light brown ...
