My 5 y.o.'s adult teeth are crowding out her baby teeth & she just had 3 teeth pulled today...any suggestions on what the Tooth Fairy should give for such an occasion?

The tooth fairy should give her what she would for a tooth that fell out on its own. Mommy should do something special for her because she went through a rough ordeal that was not of her own making.

My child recently had a tooth pulled from the dentist and I gave him the regular price I give for any tooth either pulled by him or the dentist. My rule for toothfairy prices are a little different. The amount of money doesn't depend on the way the tooth came out rather than the condition of the tooth in general. If it is a tooth with no decay or dental work(ie, fillings, crowns, ect.) He gets $5. I'll prbably give him $2-3 for teeth with fillings and He has been informed that the tooth fairy DOES NOT pay out for silver teeth(crowns). I think it is a kind of incentive program for him and encourages him to take good care of his teeth.

The Tooth Fairy brings our daughter a gold dollar coin (sacajewia dollar -- forgive my spelling) and a foreign coin for each tooth lost. She also brings a new toothbrush every other tooth. Those firefly toothbrushes are pretty neat and the kids get really excited about them. They are a toothbrush with a flashing light in them that flashes for 1 minute, to help make sure they brush for the right amount of time. They're around $1 at target, walmart, etc.

I would treat a tooth pulled by the dentist the same as a tooth that fell out -- it's not the child's fault that the tooth wasn't coming out on their own, why punish them by not treating it the same?

I thought I was going to pass out when I was helping in her classroom and her teacher was reading from the "tooth journal" (a book the kids take home and write in when they lose a tooth). OMG! Several kids in her class get $10 or $20 from the tooth fairy! Crazy!

A trip to the dentist like that deserves a special treat from mommy too!! The next day I would take her to a movie, or the park, or something special for being brave. Also, let her put the teeth under her pillow and the tooth fairy should leave some cash--maybe a $5 or more.

tooth fairy lore has amused children for a long time now. putting a baby tooth under the pillow and waking to find some monetary gift is exciting for a child. dentist pulled teeth should be no different. provided the dentist relinquishes the actual tooth(teeth) some dentists are reluctant to give out pulled teeth. some break up upon extraction. why not treat these teeth the same as lost teeth ??? have fun with them as long as you can. the age of innocents vanishes quickly

At least $10 dollars and maybe a trip to the local toy store too. That's a lot for a 5 yr old to endure. The toothfairy leaves $1 for teeth that just fall out at our house. We haven't had any pullings yet but expect there will probably be some in the future with four kids around here.

As a mom of two who are now older I have to say one thing up front, be careful what you start as that will be the expectation from here on out. My son had to have several teeth pulled and we did tend to give him a treat afterwards due to his being so good at the dentist. We made it something small and never candy as they get lectured at the dentist for eating candy, drinking soda etc. I didn't want them to feel guilty for their treat. As far as cash goes we did a dollar a tooth as kids expect so much these days in allowance and such that we didn't want them to go on expecting huge dollars every time they have to undergo the dentist or anything out of the ordinary. We have given a 2 dollar bill because they are so cool as well in the past but never a lot of money as it seems to take on a life of its own. Kids learn early to negotiate and expect certain rewards, - it is all in what you are comfortable with and can afford. We also learned it is easier to find a nifty tooth holder for the tooth fairy as one child is a light sleeper and it was hard to sneak in. I found a cute tooth shaped pillow with a pocket in it which made it so much easier to take out and tuck in - plus it makes a neat keepsake for them.
