Do you believe that a divine being created the universe and all life on earth? Or, do you believe that divine beings were created by primitive man as a coping mechanism and explanation for forces he did not understand?

Serious answers only please.

Classic Chicken 'n' Egg....... and like that example, it's up to the beliefs of your answerer.

Divine Being Created Earth: Ok, this works, coz all societies have Gods in some form. The 'True' God has been known by many names..... and is as old as Time and older, so the fact that He's not called by old names makes sense.... He's keeping his image fresh! Fundamental truths are kept the same in all religions, so a mandate of laws from God/Goddess makes sense. He just sometimes reminds us. Like the Greeks, who had stories connecting their city-states to the lineage of a God, all cultures try to put the stamp of "chosen" on themselves with a new face to God....... Same God, Different Package

Man Creates God: also makes sense. People believed in Sprites, Fairies, Elves, Goblins, Demons, etc. that had to be appeased. These "myths" are now "quaint" tales to modern man........ We may want to believe so much in a reason for being here, a better place after death besides nothingness, or a reason for the state of our lives that doesn't include blaming ourselves, that God is our only answer.

I don't know which to believe myself. I've not seen God. And the 'miracles' of one day are fakes of the next. Truth mutates to fit the histories of the winners. Reality is taken in by a flawed human form with flawed and vulnerable senses.

I suppose in the end, only God knows for sure.

Mechanism for coping. Primitive has nothing to do with it though. Allmost all cultures past and present have some form of religion and belief in a god or gods of some sort. Catholics and Christians are no different. I am not sayig this in a rude or malicious way. I just feel people need religion to understand and deal with life. If it works for you and makes you happy, then that's awesome. It is not what works for me. So, I believe the man created God to deal with most importantly death. It is much nicer to believe that Mom, and dad, and Aunt Sue, are up in heaven enjoying a glorious afterlife rather than just buried in some cemetery somewhere. It's a beautiful thing to believe. It makes it much easier to let go, which is one of the hardest things a person can go through, having gone through it recently, I understand.

Divine beings were obviouosly created by man, because why else would there be 50 versions of different gods?

If it was all created by the ONE TRUE GOD! lol Then wouldn't there only be One true religion based around him? Why would "THE GOD" want 50 versions of itself being worshiped in 50 different ways? by 50 cultures, and allow those cultures to War with each other over who's god is greater when they are all supposed to be the same god?

Logically, man created religion, belief, and the theory of Gods and Goddess.

Spiritually, I believe that my Deities created the universe and created man to want or need faith.

I can't believe that some of the idiotic religious nutbags here actually read the second part of your question as a literal act of creation...I guess that shows the ignorance you're battling...

I believe the latter...which isn't to say that there isn't a higher power, just that the ones that people follow today are fictitious...

Danzarth,
your question is so ridiculous, I mean this sincerely.

If a primitive man could create God, what are you saying about yourself, who is educated, and cannot create God?
