How long was it before you felt comfortable taking your child out in public without a pull-up or diaper? My daughter has had very few accidents in the last two weeks, maybe 3 or 4 and that includes nights and naps, but for some reason I still don't trust her to tell me in enough time when she has to go when we are out of the house. How much longer should I put her in pull-ups when we go out?

If you don't feel comfortable then just leave her in the pull ups until she has stopped with accidents at home. Accidents can and will happen but when you are out, the fewer they do, the better. The child will learn -- she's on her way. You'll know from how she is at home.

With my first child she just trained herself immediately. But the second was a long struggle. When I finally felt she was pretty well trained, I stopped buying the pull-ups and switched to cloth training pants. I let her wear just those around the house, but if we went out in public I put a pair of the plastic training panties over them in case of an accident. It only took a couple weeks of that before I felt we were done with the sporadic accidents. (I also put the plastic pants on her for naps on the couch but not when she went to bed at night, because the mattress had a plastic protector on it under the sheet.)

Yes, when the baby says
I have to go potty
do they mean right this minute
or I can hold it a minute.

I know they can't really
hold it very long when they are little.

I am going to have to do some serious training shortly
and I have no idea how to transition her
she only sort of uses the potty
if I ask her at the right time usually

I think you ask them often if they need to potty
and if they say they need to use the potty unprompted
then Id say make a beeline for the nearest potty.

and pray it's not hideous

I don't know how I am going to deal with that
maybe keep her little potty in the trunk? :)

My son was really quick to learn. We took him out in underwear within 2 weeks of him being trained. If I were you, I would try taking her on small outings first and see how she does. For a while though, I suggest carrying a bigger purse and keep an extra pair of undies and shorts with you just in case. She'll feel so big when she can go to town and use the potties everywhere she goes :-) Good luck!!

I know my 3 yr old son hates to have pullups on. I just bring an extra set of cloths when we go out. The thought is never gone, well It hasn't gone for me yet. He hasn't had a accident for awhile, but I still have cloths in the truck. I think she will be excited that she doesn't have to where the pull up out. You can give it a try.

How old is your daughter? Just remember... when your kids are being potty trained ... sometimes they do forget that they need to go to the bathroom. If you know ya'll are going to be out for a long time .. take her to the bathroom every hour even if she says she doesn't have to... just put her up on the toliet.

i'd keep her in the pull ups till the child tells you shes ready if not the case just regually take her to a bathroom though out the day so that these accedents are avoided and the childs control of their own bladder it increased.

hope this helps!

Good Luck

If you can trust her at home without them then you can trust her in public without them. Put her in her underwear during the day at home and if she can go a week without having an accident then she should be okay in public.

our daughter took about a week. All of a sudden she was potty trained, it was really strange. We just kept asking her every ten minutes if she had to go. It really worked for us.

All you can do is ask frequently until she has the hang of it. Every 15- 20 minutes worked for mine. Let her know that she needs to tell you if she needs to go.
