YOU THINK YOUR CONTACT LENS MIGHT FALL OUT? What exactly do police'check' in a stop and search? Is there inapproriate places where the police cannot stop and search...lets say you were on an Unlit country road and you were a lone female. can you demand that the 'stop and search' happen at the nearest police station.

Do they check to see if you have a criminal 'record' there and then at the side of the road...and please can someone tell me if they have a standard set of things to check or do they just decide what will be checked when they stop you? Thanks for your answers.

It bothers me that stop and search by the police, without apparent probable cause, is an ordinary and acceptable practice in the UK. We haven't reached that low point in the US, at least I don't think we have. (Anyone out there who knows I'm wrong or right for sure, let us all know). Here in the US they usually ask if your willing to let them conduct a search of your vehicle. You can ask them why they want to conduct a search and you have the right to tell them no. If the police want to go further then they have to decide whether to take you to a police station under detention or let you go.

Well. I am not sure if I understand your question completely. The loss of a contact lens by the driver (not a passenger) while driving on a Motorway could constitute an emergency and it would be a valid reason to stop on the hard shoulder.
Stop and Search. A stop and search maybe carried out anywhere that a Police officer deems reasonable. There is no valid excuse and I would consider it obstruction if anyone male or female became argumentative about the location. In answer to your question. No you cannot demand anything.

as far as i know no you cant request they stop search at a police station. you have the right to have a female officer present and to do the search if they want to do a body search or a pat down search.
you can say to the officers you are welcome and happy for them to do the search. but can you follow them or they follow you to an area more suitable to do a search (such as a residential area with witnesses around) the police do not have to permit that to happen, but they may if the road is unlit and in the middle of nowwhere.
as for pulling over on the hard shoulder on a motorway yes that is where you are supposed to stop if the police pull you over unless the hard shoulder is currently being used as a normal part of the carriageway due to road works.
ask them regards you contact lens ask if you can be seated in a lit area incase your contact lens falls out.
alternatively get driving glasses so that the contact lens does not happen.
but why are you asking this question in the first instance?
is it because your a bad driver and are constantly being stopped?
good luck.

If you are in the UK you are entitled to carry on driving until you feel it is a safe place to pull in so long as you signal to the police car that you are aware they are asking you to stop (e.g. put your hazard lights on) If you're not sure its a genuine police car (e.g. if it is unmarked) then if you have a hands free kit call 999 and ask them to confirm that it is a police car following you. In terms of a search they can search you wherever they like but 'hopefully' will be sensitive enough to do this somewhere brightly lit and safe. Again, if you're unsure call 999 and get it all confirmed as legitimate.

you can request it done at the Police Station. If you are searched outside, your 'outer' clothing must not be removed - this must be done inside a building/vehicle. You must also be provided with a 'search form' which tells you who searched you, what grounds the search was done and what if anything was found.

if you dial 112 from your mobile, (using a hands free kit) that will get you through to the police dispatcher, give them your details like where you are and that the police are wanting you to stop, and that you feel unsafe to stop where you are, they then will contact the officers to let them know that you know they are there, you can then go to a town where there will be street lights and people around and stop there. hope this helps

why worry if you are not doing anything wrong. They are just doing their job. Let them get on with it, make it easy for them and then they can use that method to find someone that has something to hide quicker. Or worse, about to do something. I am not a policeman, but thank god they are there. Remember we were bombed just over a year ago
