I have a sony cybershot and it is malfunctioning because I put brand new batteries in it, sony re-chargables, also regular batteries and as soon as i turn it on the low battery symbol starts blinking and it shuts off. I've had this camera for about 3 years so it definitly isn't covered under warrenty anymore.

Digital cameras need heavy duty batteries. These look the same as ordinary batteries but have a mAh rating of 2100 or more. Look for it on the packaging. If the batteries are suitable for digital cameras, they should clearly state this number.
Ordinary batteries only have around 1500 mAh. These either don't work at all or they only work for a few pictures.

Regular batteries tend to not show the correct amount of battery life left on the meter because they are a different type, and this could cause the camera to shut off. Just make sure the others are charged I guess.

If the light blinks and goes off, that generally means the batteries aren't charged. It could be that it only takes a certain type of battery made by Sony, so that would be something you'd need to ask the company. Maybe you can check their website.
