You can't loose fat in one specific area! By doing sit ups you'd only be growing the muscle underneath the fat layer and thus making you look even more fat. So do some cardio 45min - 1 hour a day at 65% of your max heart rate(220-your age) and you'll burn fat much more easily. And remember to eat healthier foods with less salt, fat and sugar. Chicken breasts, egg whites and oatmeal are some foods you might want to consider eating.

Your belly will not get flatter until you lose the layer of fat that covers the muscle. You can do crunches and exercise all you want, but you have to get rid of the fat on top in order for it to do anything. How? Low fat/reduced calorie diet, cardio, and for toning, I would go and purchase a video/DVD that concentrates on the abs. There are plenty of them out there. This will work if you stay consistent and do it every day (you can work the abs every day as far as I know)

what tsv3 said..there is a study just out of Cambridge -

6 men were given the task of doing 500 to 1000 sit ups / crunches per day for 1 week.

6 others were given the task of a low fat diet and 2hrs of cardio per day for one week.

the 6 with cardio lost and average of 3 inches.

the 6 that did sit ups lost 1/2 inch.

point is..ab fat is usually the last to go and only diet and exercise will remove it. Crunches and Sit ups will give you a INCREDIBLY strong abs ..but that's about it.

What good is large, strong ab muscles if they are hidden behind a layer of stubborn fat?

Not saying you shouldn't do them..a strong core makes your entire body more stable and strong.

First you need to allow the stomach to shrink, so you may want to split your meals up so that you won't fill yourself up at one time. It is better to eat multiple meals oppose to one big meal. Then once you see the weight coming off, then you can start doing ab exercises. You don't want to start doing ab exercises first because what happen is you end up toning the fat that's around your stomach into muscle. So, you will never see results. You need to lose the belly fat first and then start toning.

I used to work with a lady that had nine kids and her belly was as flat as a table she said that she didn't have time to excercise so all the time she would pull her stomach in real tight and hold it let go do it again all day.

well, you can't work to loose fat in one particular area of your body. You need to eat healthy and excersise expesially running, jumping-jacks, and sit ups. but if you loose fat everywhere in your body, then you are bound to loose belley fat too. Good luck!!!!!
