All the press is exploding in ejaculatory expulsions of excitement, but I'm sure they were behaving similarly over 2000. Can it really be as good as people say?

Anyone who has tasted it has tasted the unfinished product while it is in barrel, and there is always hype at this stage.

There are two types of people who by Bordeaux en premieur (futures): those who want to gamble that the price who will increase later and buy it intending to sell at a profit, and those who fear the price will increase later and buy it because they may not be able to afford it later.

I am in the second group. I used to buy en premieur every year in the 70's but now the prices have risen ridiculously because of specualation by people who have no intention of drinking the wine. I have however bought just 1 case of the 2005 en premieur this year, an inexpensive bourgeous chateau.

Most Bordeaux Chateau wine from the 2005 vintage, will not reach the shelves until 2007. Part of this is due to the fact that mist good Bordeaux wines spend 16-18 months in the cellar before being sold. Added to this is the recent trend in futures trading, which while it allows us the consumers to buy a good vintage before it becomes ridiculously expensive (like the 2000,) also allows chateaus to pick up money in lesser years.
Here is a typical futures site for the 2005 vintage:

I think you hot the nail on the head when you mention the media hype of the 2000 vintage. Unfortunately unless you are a wine professional it is unlikely that you will get the taste the 2005s before their release. Even if we did, it is always a guess, even for Robert Parker, whether any vintage will live up to its potential from barrel to bottle and there after in aging. In any case I have not tasted the vintage yet, but based on the reports and remembering the 2000 vintage, I will wait until the bottles are remaindered before buying. Good luck
