Would you say that it is contradictory for someone to say to me to "not try to push my beliefs on them" when I have read on here over and over again how Athiest say they are simply "trying to show us Christians how stupid we are for believing in GOD at all." Yes, I have read this as an answer from an Athiest on here.
I think it is contradicting yourself a little, Don't you think?
Or
does it not apply to you because your allowed to be angry and hateful where as If I do I am a hypocritical Christian.
Funny how that works.

Sounds like a contradiction to me, and I am an atheist/agnostic/whatever.

Personally, I think people have the right to believe what they want to believe. If you want to believe that a religious reformer who was betrayed by the powers-that-be of his religion and put to death for being an upstart was really the son of God who came to earth and gave us new life through his suffering, more power to you. If you want to believe that the universe was created by a flying spaghetti monster, rock on.

I agree with the "don't push your faith on me" mindset, but that goes both ways. I try not to push my lack of faith on anyone too. Personally, I sort of wish that I could believe that the world was created by an all-powerful benevolent being who loves us. But when I look at the world, I see suffering and pain, not love and happiness. If God exists, he made me in such a way that I can't believe in him.

I notice how you didn't mention if you heard both those statements from the same person. If it's not from the same person how can it be hypocritical? Unless, of course, you're lumping all atheists in as being the same person. Can I do that with christians, then? I could have a lot of fun with that.

kinggreef: axiomatically unreasonable ehh? Then what do you say about believing in something simply because someone said so? I knew someone once who believed that lesbians were trying to take over their mind through electrical outlets. I can't prove him wrong, and I can't see the "mind control waves". You really think it's reasonable for me to believe it's true because I can't see it? Really? Then seek professional help, right away. I'm serious.

It is hypocritical to respond that way while condemning others for doing the same thing. Some Christians are not in-your-face Bible beaters and some Atheists are not out to chastise and prove theists are stupid. It's not fair to judge a whole group of people based on the actions of a few regardless of the group targeted.

I have noticed the same thing.

As to Johnny Zondo's comment, as an athiest hell should be an empty threat, so it serves no purpose in convincing you to convert.

Therefore it is irrelevant.

The fact of the matter is, people are people. Anyone who judges a group based on the ignorance of one just as ignorant.

i doubt a single person said both of those comments, so its just like in Christianity; some Christians are content "knowing" they are right, and some feel the need to convert others so they can have this feeling too....and i dont think the quote about thinking Christians are stupid for believing in god is any different for what Christians say about believe this or you are going to hell for eternity...

Good point... I find it interesting that non-Christian are allowed to say whatever they want and try to change the minds of Christians but when a Christian tries to share his/her beliefs it all of a sudden becomes a bad thing

Atheists don't even know:

1 ) that what they believe in is a religion,
2 ) that it requires faith to believe in it,
3 ) that they are holding on to beliefs that have no evidence.

On #3, because they themselves say that there is no evidence. It's axiomatically unreasonable to believe in something- even if it's in no God, because you cannot see it.

no its not a contradiction. us atheists arent saying "beleive in evolution or you will suffer eternal pain in a giant beaker on an eternal flame form a bunson burner."

were not trying to scare you into beleving in evolution by threatening you with damnation. thats what christians do.

i, as an atheist, am simply reminding you that your beleifs are absurd.

It's called freedom of speech dear. You xians/ believers have it. so do we non-believers. We are within our rights to speak up against xians who answer questions that they do not understand and condemn people who don't share their views.
The xian assumption that this board is all about them and the attacks they regularly launch on people is part of the reason they are so ridiculed here.

Why ask why?

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion...just like you are entitled to not agree with those opinions.

No, no one should force their beliefs on anyone else, but we're still human and no matter how much we don't like it...someone is bound to tell us "another way" of doing anything.
