Cutco. You can't buy it in stores. They will last forever and stay sharp for a very long time. The steel is a combo that doesn't rust and stays sharp. Don't waste money on anything else. You'll just have to buy it again sometime in your life. You will never have to buy Cutco again.

The best answer is the ones that feel comfortable in your hand. Henckel, Wustoff, F.Dick, and Wmf, are all excellant brands. I do not recomend buying a set. Buy only what you need, A good 8 or 10 inch french knife or chefs knife can take care of most of your needs, a paring knife is handy for peeling, and then if it is in your budget a carving knife. This knife will help you thin slice a roast, on thanksgiving you can break down all the parts of the bird with your french knife and then slice up the breast with your catving knife.

OK, whoever said Henckels or Wusthoff is ALMOST correct. They are both very good quality knives, but they are also very expensive and have to be replaced after they go dull(which is the case with most knives). HOWEVER, CUTCO is the best. It is better quality, better performance, better value, and better everything compared to Henckels, Wusthoff, Chicago, or Shun. But it's also cheaper, and doesn't have to be replaced!!!!! It comes with a FOREVER...yes, I said FOREVER guarantee! go to CUTCO.com for more.
