Put it in the sink and turn on the cold water and let it sit in that.

That should thaw it slowly.

If you have time, let it thaw in the frig.

I don't know anything about dethawing, but to [thaw] a "big chunk" of fish requires time. I gather they were not filleted. I recommend putting it in a bowl in your refrigerator and let it thaw slowly so as to ensure that the fish does not get "tough." Trout is particularly delicate. If you want to hurry the process up, then put it in a bowl (again) and run cold water over it in your sink. At some point, you should be able to gently pull the individual fish apart. Keep them in the bowl until they thaw completely. Once the trout is thawed, then you can fillet them. Leave the skin on as this will help keep the cut moist when cooking. When completely cooked, the skin will practically fall off. Lemon juice, butter and a little garlic and dust the fillets with some flour and you've got yourself a feast. Bon apetite!

put it in water for a few hours. Then cook the fish a little longer than normal. Maybe bread and fry it.

I try to just buy what I'm going to cook. Fresh food always tastes better than froozen. If I will have to freeze something, I leave it at the store and buy it fresh in a few days when I need it.

To thaw something means to take it from frozen to not frozen so if you want to dethaw something I guess you would have to freeze it.

Either put it in the refrigerator for a couple of days, or put it into lukewarm/cold water until it gets thawed out. By using heat, you are peremitting more bacteria to grow, and that isn't good.

Put it in the sink. Turn on the cold water and let it sit in that.
Or thaw it in the frig over night.

Double or tripple bag it (prevent odor and dripping) and thaw it in your frig. Or, for quicker thawing, put it in a pot of cold water in your sink. Don't let it stay out after it has thawed or you're tummy will have a surpise for you.

to thaw the fish....you need to do one of two things:

put it in your sink and run cold water over it. Do not use hot water and do not allow the fish to sit in a sink full of cold water.

OR

If you have a few days......put it in a bowl and allow it to thaw in the fridge.

Why dethaw it? Just add your preparations & throw it in the oven or in a frying pan!
