Yes this can happen if the the anal gland is not expressing properly onto the stool when it is passing(scent marking). The anal juice(as I call it) or matter becomes hard and can cause a painful infection-some people notice it starting when their dog is scooting their bum across the floor. So when there is nowhere else for the anal juice and infection to go it will abscess and weep or break open sometimes. Did the vet not give oral antibiotics and infuse the anal glands with medicine. That is what we do at our clinic-clean the area as well and recheck every 2 weeks (complimentary) until it is healed. then we strongly recommend that the owner bring their dog in every 6 weeks or so to have the glands professionally expressed. This is not an uncommon problem and it is prevalent in certain breeds but can happen to any dog.If your dog seems in discomfort call your vet and ask what you can give but do not do anything yourself or clean it etc.

You can give him comfort and a good night's sleep with chamomile tea.
Chamomile tea works very well, and is safe for him.
Dump it out of the teabag, and use 1 teaspoon for small breed, up to 1 tablespoon for a large breed. Mix it in a little canned food, such as Mighty Dog, or Cesar's, and give about 30 minutes before he needs to relax. (bedtime or when he seems stressed) It will keep him happy, but reduce stress. It can be given as needed.
If your grocer doesn't carry chamomile, you can use 'Sleepy-Time Tea' as it is the same, but with added herbs. Plain chamomile tastes better to a dog.

Poor baby! But I agree with the first answer-ask the vet.

What did your vet say. I believe it is like someone who's hemorrhoid burst. It is a bit sore but in time will heal. Good luck.
