I have the EXACT same problem. My daughter is 14 months old and when I tell her no or if something doesn't go her way she hits herself on the face. I don't understand it. It can't be learned because we don't hit her and we certainly don't hit ourselves when we are angry! LOL! SHe has a fiery temper alright. Sorry I can't really answer your question, but I will be interested to read what others say about it!

He does it for attention. If you don't give him any attention when he does that, then he will stop.
There is a period of time between when children want to express themselves and when they are able to do so, in which communication is very difficult for them. You may want to teach your son some basic sign language so he can express himself without getting frustrated.
There are books on this subject. Look into it.

Hahaha! My son did the same thing! That's just a way he can express himself, since he can't really tell you how he feels or yell back at you. My son is two now and he doesn't do that anymore.
You shouldn't worry, he'll grow out of it.

Don't respond to his tantrums because that way he will know he is in control
When my daughter was two she would yell "slut" and her mother would get upset and discipline her....but she would say it at every chance she got to embarass us...so one day at dinner i convinced her mom not to say or do anything when she yelled slut, and she yelled it until she was red in the face....but then she never did it again
I wish i knew where she picked that up, so i could avoid that person

when your son starts to throw a tantrum let him throw it and ignore him. when my kids were that age i would calmly take them to their room and close the door then let them know if they wanted to throw a fix that was fine but i didn't want to see it. after awhile they stopped when they realized there was nobody paying attention
if you are concerned about him hurting himself on the floor a playpen works well

My daughter became like that for a era of time. We enable her %. out her own toothbrush and paste and then I printed a Blue's Clue's brush chart off of the Nick Jr. internet website and were given stickers to placed on them so she ought to prefer to earn them. It worked quite nicely with her and he or she likes to comb her teeth now. also, I enable her brush my teeth even as I brushed hers, it became slightly puzzling notwithstanding it made it relaxing for her.

Grab him by the leg and gently pull him into another room and shut the door. If he isn't getting any attention, his behavior will stop. The whole point is to get attention and change your mind. If it doesn't work, he will cease.

My daughter was about that age and would do that. I got tired of it one day, picked her up and popped her on the diaper and told her to stop. She never did it again....He is throwing a tantrum!

If you know that you need to say no to him, come up close to him and hold him, then say "no". Maybe bring with you something to distract him with also, hold him, then tell him no and offer an equally desirable toy or activity.

it is best to ignore that type of behavior or else he will continue doing it if he knows that he can get a reaction out of you
