gestation is about 60 days. i have noticed the pregnant cats that i have been around usually start to show when they are about 4 weeks along. so about 4-5 weeks after her sides start to poof out is when he kittens shoudl arrive. i would bring her in and give her a cosy place to have her kittens, although she will decide where she will have them. you might give her a large tub or box that she can easily get in and out of with soft clean towel in the bottom for her to have her babies in, or she might just decide to have them under your bed. poor little mama. your friends neighbors are scum for abandining this little mama. what did they think she was going to do? well karma will eventually take care of them i hope! thank you for looking out for this homeless kitty. do not take her to the pound. try calling the aspca if you are unable to keep her and they will let herhave her babies and wean them when they are old enough and then find them all homes including mama. Ooooooorrrr, maybe you might like to give mama a safe secure forever home? she deserves it. she will need to eat alot of protein and fresh water to help have healthy kittens and to have the nutrition to nurse her babies. it will be an incredible experience for you and a wonderful soul lesson in compassion and love for you to give to this little furry mama. very good karma for you to save this mama and her babies. fyi...did you know the ancient egyptians had a cat headed god called bastet. they very much admired the cat.

A vet visit can give you some idea. However, if you can't afford it, and the soon to be mommy is nice enough to lay on her back for you (some of them really like their bellies rubbed at this point.) See how far back the kittens are. I.e. how close the larger kitten bulge is to where they will come out. The closer it is, the sooner you will see those little furballs of joy.

It's great that you're taking such good care of Momma cat- and a big BOO to the creep that abandoned her!

From what you've said, she'll be delivering soon. Make sure she has good, nutritious food because feeding those babies will take a lot from her.

Good luck!

Everyone has already given you good answers. I just wanted to add a little blessing directed at you. Thank you for taking in the poor mama kitty and giving her a home. I had a pregnant stray find me last year, and she and three of her babies are still living with me-- to the eternal irritation of my 14-year old queen of the house. It's a huge committment, so bless you for taking care of them. You're earning HUGE karma points!!!

OOOOH! That just burns me up! Was is her cat to begin with or did she "inherit" it? If people get a pet, they should get the poor thing spayed or neutered...what is wrong with these people?

I don't know what to tell you about the answer to this besides bringing her to a no-kill animal shelter. Were you planning on keeping her yourself? If you are...good for you for being so generous. Poor kitty and her poor babies.

A cat's gestation period is between 63 to 67 days on average.

If you can remember when she started getting big, you can guestimate from that how far along she might be.
