im 5'6 and 133 and want to lose a good 10 lbs. i eat really healthy (vegies, no animals products, and if i eat carbs its fresh fruitd and whole wheat) but i started birthcontrol and gained 10 lbs and i guess its time to start excersizing!!!
i do 40 minutes of pilates or other low aerboics stuff 3 tiems a week
but how long should i run a day and how many days a week? should i increase the time by like 5 minutes every week so my body doesnt adapt? if i do it consistently and considering my diet how long will it take me to lose the 10 lbs? once i get to the weight i want how many days can i reduce to running to a week?

go for 45 minutes of cardio 5-6 times a week at a good pace- 10 minute miles or faster. Dont just run though, mix something else in, running every single day is hard on your knees, legs, hips, feet, etc.

Dude when I started birth control I gained 10 lbs too. I would goto my buildings' gym all the time to try to lose it but it never worked! Finally I just stopped taking it and im slowly losing the weight. So until I find another b.c that doesnt make you gain weight, there is no way im going back on it.
And as for the running - probably about 4-5 times a week, 1-2 miles each day. Try just walking, too.
Good luck!

If your doing low aerobics 3 x's/wk then you might want to start with a run/walk mix until your cardiovascular system is strong enough to handle running for extended periods of time.

According to the new health guidelines, you should try to get 60 minutes of cardio/day 4-5 days/wk. This would include the time you spend doing "low aerobics" and the pilates if your heart rate becomes elevated when you do it.

Check out "The Complete Guide to Running" by Runners' World magazine. It's the best book out there on how to get started, what shoes to get (my stepfather is getting a total hip replacement at the age of 44 because he ran his whole life with "regular" tennis shoes, so make sure you have good shoes), what to eat and when, how much water to drink, etc. It's perfect!

Enjoy!

Do it on an empty stomach for 30-60 minutes 3 times a week. Your activity level is already high, so i think this will be enough to start burning the fat.
