alcohol. put it on a cotton ball or swab. Don't push hard just gently dab or get enough so it will drip. It may sound crazy but it takes my pain away. Hope this helps!

You may need to get ear plugs the next time you swim. Also shaking the water out of your ears may help. Qtips are not the best to use cause they may end up causing more problems. They are good for the itchy area inside your ear but I would recommend getting some help from the doctor and he may give you something for when you go swimming again to protect your eardrums
Hope you are feeling better.

Has your daily backstroke left bacteria swimming in your ear? Swimmer's ear, a bacterial or fungal infection of the outer ear canal, causes painful, swollen or itchy ears or redness in the ear area. Other symptoms include mild hearing loss or a milky discharge.
Steps:
1. Use over-the-counter antiseptic ear drops or apply a drop or two of isopropyl alcohol with a medicine dropper in the ear canal. Shake your head to swish about the drops and then tilt the head to allow the canal to drain out. The ear drops or alcohol dry up excess water and help kill bacteria.
2. Ease the pain with a heating pad or hot water bottle.
3. Visit a doctor for a proper diagnosis, especially if the lymph glands are swollen, if the ear is swollen shut or extremely painful, or if a fever accompanies the infection. A doctor may prescribe antibiotics (drops or oral), corticosteroid ear drops to reduce swelling, or medication to reduce pain
4. Avoid swimming or submersion in water for at least 10 days after treatment to allow the ear to fully dry out and heal.
5. To prevent swimmer's ear, wear a swimming cap. After a swim, shake and tilt your head to remove water from the ears. If water remains, use a hair dryer on a low setting or antiseptic ear drops (or alcohol) to dry out the ears.
Overall Warnings:
Swimming in nonchlorinated water increases the risk of swimmer's ear.
Never stick an object, including cotton swabs, into your ear canal.

Use Rubbing Alcohol! by Carla Reinisch
I've been a swimmer all my life (since I was 2 years old) and this is the best thing to get rid of Swimmer's Ear: When you leave the pool, put a little bit of rubbing alcohol in the bottle's cap, turn your head to the side and put that little alcohol inside your ear until it's full (you'll hear it getting full). Wait a minute and turn your head over (put a tissue on top of your ear or a towel before turning to absorb the alcohol). Do the same with the other ear.
This is completely safe and painless. The alcohol will absorb the water inside your ear, and when you turn your head over, all the alcohol and the water will leave your ear. It works better than the drops you buy at the pharmacy.
PS: Make sure you don't have any abrasions inside your ear, or the alcohol will make it painful.

Your ears by
I like to swim. But when you swim, you splash, and you usually get swimmers ear (which leads to infection).
If your ear starts to bleed, contact a doctor ASAP! Your ear drum could be busted. Don't stick your finger in your ear, you don't want to hurt your ear anymore than it already is. If you have swimmer's ear, you should go to the doctor or a pharmacist and get ear drops.

Tylnol or IBprofen...
future or after prescription is done.
Look at the drugstore or a walmart type store for "Sweet Oil" Olive Oil N.F. Put a few drop of oil in infected ear. You have enough oil in if you can't hear with the oil in or you can feel oil in the corner of your eye(same side). Use a cotton ball at ear opening to keep it from dripping out. This bring oil will force the water out from behind the eardrum; thus healing it. This has been in use for 40 yrs or more in my family. Good Luck - Been there.

Nothing hurts like an ear ache. I reccomend a heating pad. Take 2 tylenol and Lay down with your ear down on the pad. OR call your doctor and tell him you are suffering terribly and need something for pain. He can call you in something for pain like vicodin or Darvocet to help get you over the hump.
He should have done it anyways.

Some ear drops contain a local anesthetic and pain pills can be taken orally as well.
