my boyfriend recently got a 9-month old beagle for us and I noticed a scar on her belly that starts about 2 inches from the bottom of her rib cage and is about 3 inches long. i think its a spay scar. my bf told me she wasn't spayed but i think he just forgot to ask the guy he got her from.

my dog was spayed and she no longer has a scar. It could be where the umbilical can't spell cord was once there. my other dog has a little scar which is about an inch long there and she has never been spayed. usually occurs if the mamma dog dont chew it off right. If it wasn't any animal clinic I doubt a breeder would spend money on getting a puppy spay if they were getting rid of it. A spay usually occurs lower closer down by the legs

Even good vets cannot always tell if a girl has been spayed. It would have to be a fresh spay to still show feel it to see if it feels lumpy, if it does it's a fresh spay.

A friend of mine bought a dog for her breeding program but it turned out she was almost blind so she went to have her spayed and then adopt her out.. The vet called her very shortly after they started and told her the dog was already spayed! Talk about shock!

Not only did the breeder sell her a dog with cataracts but also a spayed dog, like how was she gonna breed that dog even if the eyes had been fine...ugh!

Depending on the size of the dog the length will differ from spaying. While it does sound like a spay scar it very well could be a natural line on the belly of the dog I have had many from birth with this and it never goes away.

Sounds suggestive of a spay scar, but it could also be a scar from other types of abdominal surgery...your dog is a little young for a C-section, but any sort of abdominal surgery would also leave a scar there. (Like if she had to have a foreign body removed). Lots of vets can palpate and tell if your dog has been spayed; ask him or her their opinion!

It could be a spay scar, and it could be somethin else. I just got a puppy about a year ago, and she was spayed about 6 months ago, and she doesn't even have a scar. Take her to the vet, and he/she can tell you whether or not she's been spayed.

Thats normal for it just being a couple months sice her spay. My dog was spayed about 10 years ago and I can't see or feel the scar at all. The only bumpy scar tissue thing I feel is her belly button. :)

that could be a spay scar. most of the scars from spaying are very small and don't show, but since she is young it may still show on her. ask your vet to determine for sure is she's spayed or not.

My cat is spayed and her scar and much smaller than that. It's barely noticeable. I'd take the dog to a vet to make sure.

Sounds sort of high up on the tummy for a spay.
They are down more like in between the back legs lower on the belly and about 2-3" long.

if she's spayed you should see staple marks near the top of her belly, typically you don't see a scar like the one you described since vet medicine has improved but, i suppose it depends on where you are.it's hard to say. When you bring her in to the vet for shots (unless you have already) ask the vet, he/she should be able to tell you.
