Not recently. But back in high school, I was looked down upon for being white in a predominately Hispanic neighborhood.

I've seen it's effects. The other day I picked up a black man, (maybe 60) who was hitch hiking into town. When I stopped the car, instead of getting in, first he ducked, then he had to look around and see if it was a trick or something. I told him I pick up people because I didn't have a driver's license til I was 32, so I understand about being stranded.
That hit home to me more than anything that racism hurts all of us.

It happens almost daily... or at least when I talk to my Babby Daddy's family. They are 100% Hispanic and I am only half. They always make comments about my "whiteness". I don't speak Spanish fluently, so this is another issue.... Everything I say is "because I'm white". I believe differently "because I'm white". It is a never ending slew of insults. And the sad thing is they like me... I would hate to be someone that they don't like!!

Not really. I live in Miami, which is very ethnically diverse. Even my neighborhood, which used to be pretty much just us Cubans, is pretty much a mixed bag these days.

I lived for six years in Japan, in a city in the "snow country" that was much smaller (and much colder) than Miami.

I had my moments there, but for the most part people were fine with me, especially once they got to know me. But it took some ice-breaking on my part and it wasn't easy.

I was cussed at for marrying a sand ******. My husband is from INDIA. Not the Middle East. He gets called a sandniggar and camel jockey all the time. I don't think its ok to call anyone these names but if you are going to act superior then at least get the countries right.

I think anytime we read about racism,or we are witness to it whether or not it is aimed directly at us we all suffer as a result of it! Wouldn't it be wonderful,if everyone were blind to the point we couldn't see the color of our neighbors skin,or we were deaf to the point of not hearing their accent. Then racism would not exist!

Sure, most days that I go to Graduate School, I am female in a mostly male dominated field. Not a lot of fun. I try to be good natured and wear my shirt that says "Anything boys can do girls can do better". It makes the days go by faster. :)

Every day I walk on the street in Mexico (where I work), it's assumed that because I am pale-skinned I am American (I'm not, though I'm also not Mexican), I'm easy (not for these guys), and I'm rich (also not, since I'm on a reporter's salary).
It's frustrating and irritating, and has made me a far more cynical person

you pick to spend some time on each and each and every island, living like an section. meaning staying in a residence (no longer a motel) and grocery buying and making maximum of your nutrition contained in the residence (no longer eating at eating places). bypass to the sea coast on the weekends and seek for jobs in the course of the week. in case you stay right here, you'll maximum in all probability be operating in the course of the week, so do not play round and act like you're on holiday once you're severe about learning a sparkling position to stay. our colleges are frequently no longer popular for tutorial excellence. That being stated, I artwork contained in the typical public colleges and that i understand a great number of instructors who're large at what they do. the toddlers who do poorly have a tendency to be the toddlers who've uninvolved mum and dad -- bypass parent. it is an similar on the mainland. There are racial subject matters on each and every island purely as there are on the mainland. i have not in my view experienced any discrimination (i'm Caucasian), yet I actual have considered it ensue to others. living in Hawaii is only a dream for most and may proceed to be that way. the price of living is extreme right here and salaries are frequently lower than on the mainland. Hawaii is proper and particular and that i do not pick to ever stay everywhere else, yet I actual have assimilated particularly properly into the life-style right here. those who will be aggravated even as particular videos do not come to their island or maybe as Safeway runs out of eating regimen soda (sure, it occurs!) received't do properly right here. maximum issues do not flow as immediately as on the mainland. in case you consider that an effective ingredient, you're heading in the right direction. I *strongly* propose that you do your own analyze in individual (as i discussed above). each and each and every of the islands have good issues to furnish yet human beings truly pick one island over yet another for a reason. good success.
