The Hebrew word for "hope" is "Tikvah." It is pronounced "teek-VAH," with emphasis on the second syllable. I am going to see if I can find it in Hebrew letters somewhere online so I can send you the link...
*Added later: Here we go! תִּקְוָה
*Honestly, I think it would look much better to put the actual word for "hope," not the root, as a tattoo. But if you agree that it is more "pure" to put the root (I don't, but the subject of Kabbalah is another thing altogether), then it's your body, so your preference! It is also a bit of a contradiction to get a Hebrew tattoo, using a religious concept of "purity" and "hope," (whether you are Christian or Jewish, you follow the Old Testament) when the Lord specifically forbids tattoos at all on the body. (You might like this contradiction, kind of like a taboo oxymoron, and if so, I say go for it... Just pointing out a fact here!) Go to http://bible.ort.org/books/pentd2.asp?ACTION=displaypage&BOOK=3&CHAPTER=19
and read Leviticus 19:28 for the verse citation. Notice this commandment directly follows the first "10 Commandments" in a series of 613 Commandments.

You will see the root - or shoresh of the word "hope"
An important fact about the word. It is built off the root k-v-h, which is the common verb for "wait". Thus, hope is built on waiting. A helpful first insight.
Koof, Vav, Heay are the letters and the deepest, most kabbalistic meaning is always derived from the shoresh... not the literal form, such as "tikvah".
It's much more powerful and pure in root form.
These are the three letters which must be featured.

The Hebrew word "goy" means "nation". In the Bible, it is used in many contexts, including in reference to the Jews themselves. However, the general term for non-Jews became "Goyim", the plural of Goy, meaning "[one from] the Nations [of the world]." Eventually, a Goy in singular, became a way to refer to any individual who is not a Jew. It is not an inherently derogatory term- it basically can be used like Gentile (although some anti-semites like to claim it is a slur, so they can find instances of Jews using it normally and claim they are being racist.) However, in this context, it is a insult, because they are yelling it at Jews- it basically is like yelling "you are not really a Jew," which is only an insult for Jews. It is like calling someone un-American: it is only an insult if it is leveled at an American. If you called, say, a French person un-American, it's just a description.

The word is TIKVA (also spelled TIKVAH) - Taf Kuf Vav Hey
Hebrew translations are tricky, because sometimes the meanings aren't exact. Lxy can also mean hope (we are more certain that God will protect us).

Tikvah is the Hebrew word for hope.
Do you know the Hebrew alphabet? It is spelled:
Tav-Yud-Koof-Vav-Hay. It can also be spelled without the Yud.
