Lets say there is NO God: If you do not believe in God, you're fine. No harm done. If you do believe in God, once again, you're fine. No harm done.

Lets say there IS a God: If you do not believe in God: you're hosed. If you do believe in God. Good to go.

So... if you DO believe in God, then whether He exists or not...you're fine. Believing in a god that doesn't exist won't hurt you. BUT, if you DON'T believe in God and He DOES exist. Sucks to be you. So, one could argue that LOGICALLY, you're safer TO believe in Him. 50/50 chance there if you don't believe, but, hey. You're choice. Take it easy.

Hey Kevin R, by "do you guys have ANYTHING new to throw at me?" I'm assuming you've debated this before. Lets hear your argument, I'm interested now.

As for Leftygirl_75, I've met a lot of poeple who have studied science and biology and astronomy and think "how can you NOT believe?" Therefore your argument is invalid.

What if I spend my whole life as a Christian, then die and find myself face-to-face with Allah, or Ganesh, or reincarnated as a dung beetle? There's more than one God being vouched for out there, so it's more than just a choice between two things.
Your argument is called Pascal's Wager, by the way.

Oh for God(whose existence I utterly refute)'s sake...

It's rather tiresome debating this, but just to make a couple of points:

1. It's not a 50/50 choice - as there is no objective evidence for the existence of God it's not 50/50. There is an incalculably small probability of God's existence when nothing supports it, so you're argument falls apart right there.

2. Even if it was 50/50 I'm sacrificing a life I know I can live now (I don't agree that going to church every sunday, or visiting mecca or worshipping the lord shiva is anything but torture) for the possibility that I might have a life in some imaginary future where my non-existent soul transcends to some non-existent heaven (or in my case a non-existent hell).

The thing here is that if GOD does exist and he's self absorbed enough to want to be worshiped, then people could potentially anger him by worshipping him improperly. Case in point, what if GOD was not only a woman, but a rabid Feminist? AND all of these arrogant men (the root of all evil as far as she's concerned) have been assuming that only a man could do her job for all these thousands of years, and that has really been pissing her off. Also, all of these weak willed women (a bane on her precious Humanity) are right in there with them, lapdogs, also assuming that GOD couldn't possibly be a Female..... the very idea.

Under those circumstance, I dare say that you'd be in even worse shape than you would be in if you did not believe.

The Christian view of God is amazingly troublesome to believe till you've had it drummed into you from an early age. there are such distinct logical issues of how Chrisitians describe God (see elements) that distinct people locate it somewhat too quaint, and fantastically stupid. The midsection idea of a better means that created us in a unmarried way or yet another and is searching over us continues to be very suited for distinct people although, so that they say they believe in the perception of a god in case you want to have this valuable perception without being ridiculed for believing the loopy illogical stuff that Christians believe.

Compare it with this:

When you talk to a 4 year old child who believes in Santa Claus and say you do not believe in Santa Claus. He will say: if you believe in Santa Claus you are safer because even if you do not believe and say that you believe ...

You would give the 4 year old a smile and walk on, you dont want to take his dream away but because you are much older there is not a single neuron in your brain even having any doubt that Santa Claus exists, it is no longer in your scope.

Thats the answer, the whole question or reasoning is just not relevent anymore.

Thats a (OLD) but interesting logical argument. However it assumes that just belief is enough to win deietys favor, and it assumes a caring God. But Its a good enough argument none the less.

And I tend to agree with it, however the question and answer portion of this board tends to run HIGHLY atheist. I dont know why.

So.. I wouldent expect a warm reaction to your purely logical and probably quite correct assesment.

The Answers after this will probably not answer the question instead they will be emotional rants. But, I think God will smile on you for trying *Whatever his real name is*

No, it isn't. However, if one thinks about how everything is interconnected and seems to be so similarly formed, then one can see that there just may be an intelligence in the design of all things. That intelligence could be called "God", although I cringe at the term. It might better be termed "the Creator."

God is not away from the world of existence. The process of creating a life ,bring it up to exist on its own physically is a supreme process at every level of existence. It is the inner consciousness of motherhood who feeds on her self the new born baby. The LOVE-BOND between the created the creator defines God which is beyond all logic. One is judged by one's actions of realising this pure and divine flow of LOVE .

In an attempt to answer your question... I think it all depends on where and when you are born... you are talking about chance... well, I believe there is a higher chance that a child born in Brazil in 2006 will believe in God than a child born in for example France in 2006... Good luck!

You are fine to not believe in God even if he exists. For all we know, and we don't know, he may save you too, but since no one has actually come back from heaven or hell or wherever after being an athiest, we have no proof.
